Dec. 13th, 2024 07:40 amTwo days ago was windy and rainy all day, but thankfully pretty warm for this time of year.
Still full from dinner the previous night, I didn't find myself all that hungry before going to work, and only had some Special K upstairs.
I did start to get hungry early in my actual shift, though, and decided to have a quick lunch at Starbucks during my first fifteen, despite both a downpour that had been going on and a whole hour I would get two hours later. Ordered a grilled cheese and an iced caffè americano then, and didn't bother grabbing any kind of snack during my hour, settling instead for just my protein shake before reading some pages from Peaceful Days of 16 Magical Girls (managed to finish during yesterday's hour, and decided just to sit back during my second fifteen thereafter).

Not sure how much of a coincidence this is with it being in my rain pants pocket instead of my regular pocket underneath, but for the first half of the day, my phone kept going to the emergency call screen, sounding off each button pressed, until I eventually turned it off.
Somehow, its battery managed to drain even while off throughout the day, reaching as low as 27% just half an hour before my shift ended, before I put it on saver mode. That actually had managed to take effect when I clocked out at 6:27, but I still missed a call that SCAT sends you 15 minutes before a scheduled bus arives; I did not want it running out anyway before I'd have a chance to sign out when I'm supposed to.
The previous night had been sweltering up in the apartment, and I had found myself running out of juice upon grabbing some to pour. I had already noticed a bus parked in the middle of the parking lot, and figured I still had a few minutes before it would actually drive to the entrance. Managed to buy myself a jug of apple juice, which I was able to pay for with a combined amount from a tip and some Coinstar change, and then went to grab a duffle bag I had brought for my rain gear, before boarding the bus.
The driver told me that he would've driven off if I was just a minute later to reach him.
(Told Aunt Marie what had happened after reheating some of that angel hair for the two of us. She told me after I asked that, while Mom was correct about her lack of confidence overall in driving at night, and especially in the rain, she would feel confident enough to drive somewhere at least familiar to her (she had come along recently while Mom was driving me over, and then drove me herself the next day), even if she were at this hospital where Dad has been staying this past week.)
(Yesterday was sunny, and my phone worked much better then, having only drained to around 79% by the end.)
