Spotted a whole pocketful of change in the Coinstar machine on my way to the restroom yesterday. Upon reaching for it, though, someone named Deborah, presumably a team lead, was like "Don't you touch my money." I asked to confirm if we're not supposed to be taking money that people leave behind, even that didn't end up inside the machine, and she put it inside a rubber medical glove.

Upon leaving the restroom, I actually saw the machine itself open for maintenance (and a second time later), and I should note that some of that change was stuck inside the slit it's supposed to slide out of, which would suggest it was out of order to begin with. I was told before not to pick any change up even off the floor during an earlier examination, probably because it fell out of the machine, but unlike items left in shopping carts, wouldn't change left inside a machine be just as fair game as that just lying around?

Filled Brian in on what happened when he came to pick me up, and then Mom when we arrived home. Went on to mention that, late in 6th grade, Mrs. Bandows got on my case multiple times for raiding the pay phone and soda machine near the gymnasium for loose change, until one of my teachers that year rebuked me for it and told me that the school goes to great lengths to protect its property; they both found that weird, and Mom said I wouldn't have gotten in trouble at home for something like that.
