Garage sale weekend in Pennsylvania
Jul. 28th, 2025 07:21 amSpent these past three days with Mom in Pennsylvania to visit her family for a garage sale Grandma Ella wanted to host.

During the ride there, several hours after having only had a yogurt snack and some coffee each before leaving the house before dawn, we had our real breakfast at this place called Cracker Barrel. I ordered what was a couple of pancakes each folded to contain some strawberry cheesecake filling and topped with strawberries, that even came with a small cup of strawberry syrup, with a side of thick-sliced bacon and some hot chocolate.
After we placed our orders, that's when Mom suggested beforehand I go to wash my hands. Before I came back, I also had a look around at some candy for sale, and got a bag of pumpkin-spice-latte-flavored chocolates.
-
Further down the road, our GPS sort of led us around, but we did get to see some nice scenery, including cornfields and a lake.
We also spotted a groundhog get hit by a passing car, not run right over but it did get tossed up a foot somehow. As troublesome as the ones are that live near us, Mom did feel bad to see that one get injured.
-
Shortly before we arrived, Grandma called us to let her know that she was due for an MRI that day. Mom had to drive her after we arrived, and I stayed at the house, where I had myself a nap and then mostly asked for help on Discord to figure out how to use the debugger in this multi-system emulator called Mesen (I only managed to nail that yesterday, shortly after arriving back home) in order to analyze battle actions in Earthbound.
Mom had rented me and her a room at a nearby hotel, because the second floor of Grandma's house, where the guest room is located, has no air conditioners cooling it down, unlike the first with two. Mom took me there shortly after she and Grandma arrived home, while Grandma started making dinner, and we had ourselves a dip in the swimming pool before returning for dinner. (There is also a pool in the hotel in Massachusettes, but it was closed for renovations during our stay there.)
-
The next morning, Mom and I had breakfast at this place I forget the name of. I got a couple of slices of French toast sandwiching some strawberry cream cheese filling and topped with strawberries, a side of scrapple, and a vanilla milkshake. Mom told me prior that Uncle Robby tried scrapple before, and didn't care for it.
That French toast was more filling than I anticipated, and I wound up eating just two bites of that scrapple. Mom also had a bite, and we thought it was okay, but not great enough that we'd order it again.
-
During the actual sale, we had Aunt Allison, Blas, and Cousin Steven and his family join us.
Managed to sell Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (I left my other four Switch games at home), my player's guides for Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and Pokemon Crystal and Sword/Shield, and some anime DVDs (Mom presumed later that he wanted them to re-sell), all for $25 under a default price of $3 per item (the price most manga sells for at Savers).
Mom also gave my player's guide for Breath of the Wild to Aunt Allison to give to Adrian, whom Mom learned from her already has the game itself along with SMO.
-
The event ended at 1. Cousin Steven et al left, but the five of us remaining decided to eat out at this buffet called Dutch-Way Farm Market. (There are actually two locations around there, but Aunt Allison explained that the one further away that we went to is somehow better.)
As usual for at a buffet, I loaded up several plates throughout our stay with various things, including for dessert. Suffice to say, I was already full enough to let that double as dinner.
Allison and Blas went back to their house after we left the establishment. Mom drove me and Grandma back to her house, and the three of us stayed there for a while before Mom and I drove to the hotel.
-
Got up early yesterday morning to beat the traffic on our way home.
We stopped for breakfast at a Waffle House, where I simply ordered a waffle, a side of city ham, and a bottle of orange juice. She found the place to be "sketchy", as she'd describe to Grandma and Aunt Allison, starting with a sign I never noticed personally, saying "No guns or knives", the remaining overnight crew chatting with one another before noticing us, and Bob Marley blasting on the radio too loud for her to have some coffee in peace.

Recently, I have been arranging my bus trips to work through SCAT's application that I discovered on a bus. While said app does allow me to schedule when to actually arrive at my destination (the phone service only asks when to pick you up), I must not have been paying attention since.
This morning at 2:00, Mom and I both woke up to use the bathroom. I was already planning on waking up early to type up this entry before a bus scheduled to pick me up between 5:30 and 6 (specified yesterday through an automated message). Mom asked me why I was turning my computer on, and then told me that she wouldn't want me standing outside for a whole hour in the dark before my actual shift to start at 7.
She offered to come home from work when a coworker is due in, and drive me to the store before 10. I managed to use three hours of PPTO to file tardy today, and cancelled today's ride from there.
