dmxratedMom and I finally took care of that branch on the ground.
First thing we attempted was to pull down the half still dangling from the tree, with a long rope ending in a ball wrapped inside. We were not able to pull it down at any angle, but that just helped us deem it sturdy enough not to fall on us.
Mom went on to cut up the thick part of the half on the ground with the sawzall while I cut up the thinner parts with the loppers. We managed to load most of it into the trailer to bring to the landfill, but had to fill two garbage cans with the remainder for a brush pickup.
