dmxratedYesterday, after having beaten Pokemon LeafGreen, I spent hours just walking around outside enjoying the fact that I've done everything there is to do in that game. Later on, though, I got bored and started looking around on the Internet (for nothing in particular).
While I was at it, I overheard Mom and Dad watching something called Wierd U.S. This particular episode revolved around Christmas and its origin. It also featured someone who runs a controversial radio show and is currently using it to ask parents to stop lying to their children about Santa Claus and explained why. The people on the show visited Cornell University (where Brian goes to school these days; Dad even called him over while he was sleeping on the futon) and asked someone how fast Santa would have to travel in order to visit every house worldwide in one night. According to the expert being asked, it would be so fast that Santa's reindeer and sleigh would be propelled into space, and fast enough to vaporize a house upon returning to Earth. The air force also played a hoax about having located Santa (somewhere over India).
Later on, it occurred to me that like last year, Mom might have forgotten the Player's Guide for the Pokemon game she (supposedly) got me this year. She was making dinner when I asked, and it turned out that she really did, and on top of that, GameStop was closed early for Christmas Eve night, and is closed all day today for Christmas Day. This disappointed me, and I started to say things like 'We've been through this last year; I didn't get the player's guide for Emerald, and I had to buy one from Ebay'. Dad then called me over, and started to lecture me. His voice was just above a whisper, and he didn't seem too angry with me, although he did ask me rhetorically how old I was (which I refused to answer). He then told me to tell Mom that everything will be fine for Christmas. Mom then nearly burst into tears, but I told her that Christmas isn't ruined just because of this one thing that's missing.
