Yesterday, I missed my bus going to work. I was at the computer while I was waiting for it, but I didn't notice it through the trees near Long Island Avenue until the last few seconds. It took off right when I got outside, and I chased it a few blocks down the road, stopping right in front of the miniature storage buildings. I then called Mom on my cell phone, and she then called the bus company as I got back into the house. A few minutes later, she told me to call work and tell them I wouldn't be able to come.

Usually, I set the timer for fifteen minutes before the bus is due, so that I can have a time buffer to get ready. Most of the time, though, I'm ready long before the timer goes up. Fifteen minutes still does seem like a reasonable time buffer if I'm playing a game where I need to take my time to save data, but the bus isn't supposed to leave at any time before its designated time. I'd say that setting the timer for an extra ten minutes would see reasonable if the bus still isn't here fifteen minutes beforehand.

Anyway, I'm not going to be playing Pokemon Pearl for a while, except for with Adam when we visit Uncle Robby next week. But to fulfill my need to continue gaming, I'm going to play the games that I used to enjoy back in 7th grade.

Super Mario Bros. and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire were just the first two in line. Well actually, not the first two; I did play Diddy Kong Racing before those two, but only for one week before Brian traded it back with Eric Moriarity for Starfox 64. Even today, we still don't own a copy of DKR, it's an ESA-protected ROM, and even if it weren't, I'd rather use a real Nintendo 64 controller rather than a keyboard to play 3D games in general.

Okay, about my controllers. For the Nintendo 64, I don't have the same ones that I used to have. The ones I have now (which were bought on Ebay) are perfectly intact, but unlike the ones that came with the N64 itself, these ones don't have the turbo buttons above the Start button. (Ultimate Console Database doesn't have an archive for different controller models for any given console. Maybe I should email whoever owns the site and ask them if they would make such an archive.)

Okay, so maybe having different controllers for the N64 isn't such a big problem; only difference is that I can't just press down to shoot in games like Star Wars or StarFox 64. The Super NES, though, is the real deal; both of my SNES controllers are defective. I've owned a regular gray controller and a clear, slightly thicker controller with the autofire switches. With the former, pressing down is awkward. I've had to press it several times to make Mario duck. Thankfully, this won't be as problematic in games like Super Mario Bros. or Kirby Super Star as it would be in more fast-paced games like Street Fighter II.

As for my other controller... for years, it's had a tiny hole in the right side (well away from the buttons, thank god), and the R button never did work, but now, the Y button doesn't work either. In response to this, I bought two brand new controllers from Ebay for just $13, in hopes that they will come before either Brian comes home or I finish revising whatever I wrote in Chronicles of 7th Grade. (Nintendo doesn't offer factory replacements or repair services for old hardware, but I'm considering letting Brian have a look at both my current controllers when he's home. To just throw them away would be a waste if he could fix them, but if he can't, then that's probably the best thing to do.)
