Jun. 28th, 2008 06:03 amTo start off, yesterday was the first time I ever did obtain an event-only Pokemon, legitimately or otherwise. At first, Mom suggested that I wait until Adam was here so that we could both go, but it turned out that his copy of Pokemon Pearl was lent to a friend of his.
I called up the GameStop store that we normally go to. That one wasn't hosting the Deoxys event, but they did give us the number to the store in Shirley, which was hosting it. Upon calling that store, they said that I really don't need the National Dex. Getting the Pokemon in question only requires that I have gotten past the beginning of the game.
(I did read on Bulbapedia that an opportunity to get Darkrai had come and passed on the 1st of June. Well, there's nothing I can do about that now, but I'm at least glad to have Deoxys, especially since this event gives you the Pokemon itself rather than a key item to an exclusive game location. I also understand that the third game to Diamond and Pearl really is going to be Platinum, which was my guess when I spoke about it with Jake last year. Funny thing is, he guessed that the third game was going to be called Pokemon Topaz. Rumor also has it that Pokemon Gold and Silver are going to be remade for the Nintendo DS, and there were even hints from Diamond and Pearl that were pointed out in Bulbapedia to support such a rumor.)
Mom later brought me over to that store to do what I need to do, and also picked up some 4th of July flags at Pathmark as long as we were there. I also asked the clerk if he had any copies of Pokemon Ruby or FireRed, but he couldn't find either of them since he didn't clean out his GBA game pak inventory. We stopped at our own GameStop store on the way home to see if it had either of those two games, and I was able to buy Ruby for $40.

After coming home, I watched the Angry Video Game Nerd's new video, which reviews Superman for both the Atari 2600 and the NES. I'm glad that Death & Return of Superman was the only Superman game I ever played, as well as being the single worst video game. The two games he reviewed are way worse, and at least D&RoS was playable compared to those two. Watch the end of the video to see which game he'll review next time:

I tried writing a review for the video, in which I wrote about D&RoS and posted a link to the entry titled "Video Games: The Top 50 (and five that suck)". It didn't go through, though, because I wasn't logged in, but I'll hopefully try again today.

Grandma Ella, Uncle Robby, and Cousin Adam had arrived while I was watching the video, and Robby and Adam came into the room while I was writing the comment. They asked me if I could speak Japanese, and also if I could speak Hebrew. I told them that the I can only translate Japanese, and even then, I'm still an amateur at it. I asked them to let me finish writing the review before I come back to them, but after I finished, I showed them the dialogues that I've translated so far from Makeruna! Makendou Z. They appreciated it.
Even though Adam didn't bring his Nintendo DS, Uncle Robby and Mom asked me if there were any games I would play together with Adam. Mom suggested that I play We Love Katamari, I told them that there are very few games which I enjoy playing together with anyone, and that I'm not nor ever was even interested in any Katamari games to begin with. However, I did point out Knuckles Chaotix as one of the few games I would actually play with anyone else.
Me, Robby, and Adam then went into the computer room, and Uncle Robby went on the computer first to look up some website. Me and Adam waited about fifteen minutes while he was busy. Afterwards, though, Adam was patient enough to let me check the Gens BIOS menu and configure the controls for two players before starting the game.
The way I showed him how the game is played is exactly how I should have showed him when I "tried" to show him how to play Snowboard Kids 2 last December. Instead of letting him play, telling him how to control the characters, and giving up immediately, I played by myself this time and told him all the basic moves (along with Espio's special techniques, since I chose him for the Training mode). However, he was content with just watching me play, and I played through a few levels as Charmy, pointing things out and making commentary along the way.

Dad was working for most of the day, and Marie spent most of the day at Scott's house, so neither of them were home for dinner while the rest of us ate. During dinner, though, Adam told us about the kind of lifestyle his half-brother Cameron has. According to him, Cameron spends entire days and nights playing World of Warcraft and talking to other players through that game. When it comes time for dinner, he just comes downstairs briefly to take some food back upstairs with him, and he puts his homework off until six in the morning. I told everyone that I'm glad I have much more of a life than he has, even if Dad sometimes does "rant" or "lecture me" about how I'm wasting my life away. Dad says that those two are not what he does so much as simply giving me some fatherly advice, but Grandma did mention that I do go to College, which she understands is quite busy.
