Feb. 9th, 2006 11:16 amI beat Sonic CD yesterday.
What inspired me to buy that game in the first place is the concept of traveling through time and whether the future in each zone is good or bad. I'm a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog games in general mainly for the music, and I look for ways I could apply different songs into future fanfiction I write. (Do keep in mind that I've been playing the PC version, which has most of the same songs as the English Sega CD version, though several songs are different.)
Most of the English songs for Sonic CD weren't as great as those from, say, Sonic 3 & Knuckles or Sonic Adventure. However, the dubbed Good Future theme for Stardust Speedway is a lot more exciting that that used for the original. If you're listening to it on VGMusic, though, I suggest you buy the real thing from Ebay instead to hear how good it really is. Another fun song is the Bad Future theme for Wacky Workbench, which I shared with Brian the other night. It's kinda interesting that the people who made the game wrote something similar to Stay In the Light (not available on VGMusic either) to represent a dark future for said zone.
Anyway, coming back to applying Sonic the Hedgehog songs to other works, such songs for the most part just wouldn't go well with RPGs such as Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, or the Digimon World series, due to the different nature of such games. TV shows would be a different story; for example, the Lava Reef theme from Sonic & Knuckles could be used in Mon Colle Knights, as the "scenery" music that plays when the Knights arrive in the Fire Realm, as would the Mushroom Hill theme to a forest. Of course, if such song were to play endlessly throughout the episode, it wouldn't go well with different situations, and it would get on the viewers' nerves. As for making comparisons between Good and Bad Futures, that would be kinda hard to apply into a fanfic without making it formulaic.
