Feb. 27th, 2006 05:58 amLast night before dinner, Mom made a cake with lemon icing and coconut, even though my birthday is still half a month away. Coincidentally, right before dinner, I asked Dad what it means when someone says "You can't have your cake and eat it too." He said it's self-explanatory: If you eat your cake now, you won't have any for later. Mom assumed it meant you can't have two thing at once if they conflict with each other, but Dad said she's wrong. Brian told us that said statement was also mentioned in some song by Four Seasons, in which case meant you can't drive your girlfriend away and have her back.
As quoted by Happy Bunny: "You can't have your cake and eat it too. But you can have your cake and eat someone else's, and it's really better that way."
