Dec. 26th, 2007 06:08 amI was the first one to wake up yesterday, and Marie woke up only a few minutes after I did, and bugged me to wake up Mom and Dad while I was working on yesterday's entry.
For Christmas, I got the Nintendo DS with Pokemon Pearl, a Newtype magazine, some basic Japanese flashcards, and other stuff. My presents to everyone else included The Sims 2 (for Marie), two Family Guy "guide to" books (for Brian), a mixer (for Mom), and the movie Commando on DVD (for Dad). Dad also got Popeye on DVD and a new Bathroom Reader book; Marie also got some other Sims game for the DS.
Dad and I watched some episodes of Popeye before eating breakfast. Brian was trying to get something to work on his computer. Marie was in the same room as us, but was playing her Sims game instead of watching the show.
I looked through the Newtype magazine, but for the first glance, nothing really stood out. I'll have to look through it again these days to see if anything does stand out. I particularly remember reading articles about Sgt. Frog, The World of Narue, and Divergence Eve in that magazine. And speaking of Divergence Eve, I've had that on DVD, and I've never watched a single episode, what with my games and the tons of schoolwork I get during my months at school. I remember watching Love Hina and Excel Saga two years ago, when I wasn't so busy with everything else. Recently, instead of reading fanfiction (except for what Jake linked me to), I've been reading Penny Arcade; maybe that should be put aside for the time being.
Oh, and speaking of Penny Arcade, I also uploaded one of the Christmas specials of that webcomic as our desktop yesterday morning. Mom said she liked it, and when we were eating dinner, I asked everyone what they thought of my new desktop.

(And not that it's a big deal, but Mom and Dad tend to confuse the desktop with the screensaver. Just to clear that up, the screensaver is what comes up when no one uses the computer for a while. The desktop is what you see when all programs are either minimized, closed, or only taking up part of the screen.)
Without the respective player's guide, I'm unable to play any Pokemon game, which in this case, is Pearl. (This was also the case with Emerald last year.) But then again, Christmas is a special day of the year, and a special day calls for time with a special game, and that game would be Wonder Project J2. Well, I wrote all the basic fuctions onto an index card, but I still had the same problem as before when it was time to teach Josette how to read books. I did eventually figure it out, though. You know how, when you're using a real Nintendo 64 controller, you normally move the control stick all the way whenever you do use it? By default, when you press the stick's equivalent keys on the keyboard, the character you're controlling with it (in this case, Bird) only moves at 55% speed. You need to configure some more keys to make the characters go at different speeds, and I configured the C key for 100% speed so as to be able to switch between the gameplay and the inventory. I love this game, and from now on, I'm only gonna use the walkthrough sparingly.
Originally, when I suggested we watch Commando yesterday morning, Dad said that that would be for the afternoon. However, later on, Mom said that they were going to watch some guitar movie instead, and Commando can be saved for the next day [today]. I wasn't interested in the guitar movie, but I had no problem with this change in plans.
