Rant #10

Rant #10: I just checked Wikipedia's lists of games for both the Wii and the Playstation 3, and there are a number of anime titles listed on both lists. However, barely a handful have even been released in the U.S., or even have yet To Be Announced. It's already been more than a year since those two consoles have been released. I distinctly remember playing a demo of Battle Arena Toshinden around the same time when the Playstation 1 was brand new, and the combined number of anime games I've seen for the Playstation, the PS2, the Game Boy Color, the GameCube, the Game Boy Advance, and the Nintendo DS is clearly more than what we had ten or twenty years ago, even if some anime games still never reached the U.S. Why do Nintendo and Sony have such a problem with anime games all over again?

Sorry to sound impatient, but if the DS has a fully-anime-style Snowboard Kids game, some Trauma Center games, Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney, Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and probably some more games I haven't heard of yet, then why can't the Wii and the PS3 have their share of translated anime games?

Okay, so this rant might be outdated by now, but let's remember that it's been a year since I've made these rants on the VGMusic forum. However, the last few times I checked gaming magazines such as Nintendo Power and Electronic Gaming Monthly, most anime style games had been on either the Nintendo DS or the Playstation Portable, although there were a few of them on the home consoles (one of the most notable actually being the Xbox 360-exclusive Blue Dragon).

Anyway, I gave Wario Land a try yesterday, and my first impression of it is that it's kinda easy and boring. It sucks too that Wario moves rather slowly. I mean, the enemies in Yoshi's Island and most Sonic the Hedgehog games hardly put you at risk of losing a life, but those games have their own challenges or highlights which entail that you don't get hit once. However, according to some reviews I read online, this game actually does get more interesting, and there's also the challenge of collecting the hidden treasures in each level. Perfect! Now that gives me a reason to buy a real Virtual Boy, and it's not something I'd want to spoil by playing the game on a mute emulator.

In the meantime, I might play Wonder Project J2 on Nemu64. Yeah, it's not a Wario game, but it was discussed in Nintendo Power during the last years of the Game Boy's life span, just a year and a half before the Game Boy Color came out. That will be the game to be completed before I buy some Game Boy games, instead of Wario Land VB.
