Wi-Fi: Better luck this time?
Dec. 14th, 2008 05:31 amMom went to New York City to visit Marie, and still has yet to come home. The two of them went to go see this movie called Milk, from what she told me across the phone last night.
Even though I still have Ruby, Emerald, and possibly Silver to play after I complete Pokemon FireRed, I have considered buying both a copy of Pokemon Platinum and a Nintendo Wi-Fi adapter. I know I've had trouble using said adapter a year ago, and decided to return it afterwards, but the original reason for buying one was to play the Underground online...which turned out not to be a possibility. This time, however, I understand that certain event-only items can be obtained in Platinum through Wi-Fi. Namely, there is currently a chance to pick up a Member Card, which will end on January 15; the Secret Key was made available from September through November, but will be made available again right after the Member Card opportunity ends. There are even some YouTube videos demonstrating how to obtain the Member Card:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBZAhvPmoj4&feature=related (Japanese text only, again)

I do understand that these items are not available for Diamond or Pearl, so that raises the question of: Will there be any new items up for grabs for all three versions?
Also, I am glad at least to have obtained a legitimate Deoxys in Pearl, along with a bunch of Pokemon (including some starters and a disk-downloaded Jirachi) that I salvaged from Ruby and FireRed. Celebi (Crystal) and Mew (Emerald) never were made available in America to begin with, but at the time when the Eon Ticket, Mystic Ticket, and Aurora Ticket were being given away, I didn't even have a Game Boy Advance yet, although I would've lost them anyway had they been unlocked in my initial (fake) Sapphire pak. However, I do kinda regret using a GBA GameShark to get all those other event-only Pokemon and others not normally available in Pearl, since it took part of the fun out of downloading Deoxys. Then again, that was a chance I'd only get while I had some game paks that I didn't complete. Even though using one to access the normally inaccessible Pokemon in Ruby, Emerald and FireRed is my personal reward for completing Sapphire and LeafGreen, I will not make a point of hacking and migrating every single missed event-only Pokemon in Platinum. When it's time to play the PAL Park in that game, I'm already gonna have completed all five GBA games, from which I'll let the dice decide which Pokemon already on those games will be migrated.
Upon reading things more closely, it's been confirmed by both Wikipedia and Bulbapedia that Platinum currently has only been released in Japan. Until March 22, the only way to get it here would be through Ebay or an online store, and by the time it does get here, the Member Card giveaway will more than likely have ended. But then again, I'm not interested in playing a Pokemon game if it's in Japanese, especially if there's no English player's guide to go with it, so in this case, missing the Member Card and the Secret Key is justified.
