More shit about Makeruna! Makendou Z
Apr. 2nd, 2009 05:20 amFor the most part, I've been having a break from Makeruna! Makendou Z for the past couple of days. Tuesdays are my long day at school, and Dad was home yesterday and not in a good mood.
Yesterday morning, I've started copying dialogue from Mother 2 and comparing the lines to Earthbound. Let me tell you, even when you have the same quotes in two different languages, trying to figure out how they were translated is still disorienting as hell!
While I was talking to Jake on MSN yesterday, he claims that he's more used to hearing Japanese dialogue than I am, and would be able to figure out what anyone says (without actually translating it), if only I were able to upload stuff from my videotape to send to him. He even said that he could listen to it and write it down in romaji. Unfortunately, the computer that I use isn't compatible with that USB adapter that I bought from Ebay, and last time I asked, Brian doesn't want me doing that with his computer. So, I spoke to Mom about saving up some money for my own computer. Unfortunately, I'm not gonna be able to make any money until at least after the semester ends, though I could talk to Vincent about arranging a part-time job beforehand instead of waiting for the semester to end. Meanwhile, she did also suggest that I talk to Brian about upgrading our computer so that it meets the requirements of that USB adapter.
Anyway, I checked the lists of FMVs and eyecatches in Makeruna! Makendou Z. I've gotten up to the second-to-last boss so far. As it turns out, I only have three more FMVs to uncover, but I still have more than forty eyecatches left. That means that either most of them are in the credits, or I somehow missed a lot of them. The latter case would be ironic, because this is by far the most straightforward RPG I have ever played.
Unfortunately, I've never seen a player's guide for this game, and the walkthrough doesn't tell you where to find the eyecatches; only two of them that I've found are optional: The Game Over screen, and the one you get if you spy on Dai, Chuu, and Shou on the arctic mountain. I even asked on the Rising Stuff forum, and still have yet to get an answer. Even worse, the game doesn't let you go back and revisit places you've already left, which means that the only way to get them would be to start the whole game over.
Are all those eyecatches really in the credits, or am I supposed to do something so obscure that I'd never figure it out if I lived a million years? If the latter case were true, finding them would be like trying to play Raiders of the Lost Ark on the Atari 2600, a game which the Angry Video Game Nerd practically had to give a walkthrough for. Speaking of the AVGN, I already mentioned how interesting it would be for him to review this game. Here's another problem: The eyecatches aren't listed in the order that they're shown to you in the game. Kinda like the inventory in any Legend of Zelda game, where the items you find are placed randomly in the item screen, but even slightly worse. In this situation, they have no words to describe them, only numbers, which means you gotta check out each one until you find the one you want, and they're not even categorized. The title cards are mostly in one place, but several of them are placed haphazardly in another part of the list.
What the fuck is that all about? Even the FMVs have some kanji to distinguish each one from another, so why couldn't the eyecatches?
Honestly, this is by far the worst RPG I have ever played. I mean, as a game, it's mediocre at best, it is at least playable, and if you're into cute girls or were such a diehard fan of "Kendo Rage", only to find out that that game was actually the first Makendou game in the trilogy, then go for it! But, what were the guys who made this thinking? Being a completionist, I'm at least glad that this game is on the opposite end of the simplicity/complexity spectrum from a Pokemon game.
