Back to the present.

Yesterday, Dad had asked Marie to vacuum. From what I overheard, she was apparently doing a half-hearted job with it, and he told her to take pride in her work. She told him that she's gonna write in her blog what a meanie he is, based on how she perceives I write about him in Co7G. When I came out of the bathroom, Dad teased her by unplugging the vacuum, and she's like "Do you want me to vacuum, or do you want me to vacuum?" I walked into the office with him, and he's like "Good joke, isn't it?"

"No," I said.

"It isn't?" he asked.

"If you did it to me, I'd punch you", I responded.

He then stood there and asked me to do so. I punched him in the rib, but couldn't hurt him much.

Coincidentally, Mom was reading some back entries of Chronicles of 7th Grade, and we looked at the entry where he and I had a dispute over chocolate milk and dinner (Week 12, part 2). Dad then said that the whole world knows, and joked that he did a bad job raising me.

Ever since I was playing Super Mario World, I've noticed that the TV now has a tendency to sometimes go black and white. At the time, though, it only happened in certain parts of that game, and even then, just by turning it off and coming back later, the problem would solve itself. This also happened with Kirby Super Star, but yesterday morning, it happened when I was about to play Super Mario Bros. 2. I came back to the game later, and the color was still lost. To rule out the possibility that this was a console problem, I turned on the Nintendo 64, and the same thing was happening with Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. I called Brian over, and he suggested that I jiggle the wires in the back while he watch the screen and let me know when the color's back. I did manage to get the color back with his help, so I know what to do from now if/when this happens again.

Not that this is gonna make any difference, but here's one thing I'd like to clear up anyway, regarding a dispute Jake and I had about Parasitic Trio yesterday morning:

By "to simulate a game", I did not mean that the fic in question would feel every bit like a game, detail for detail. Rather, it would be like writing a novelization, but for a game that doesn't actually exist. Snowboard Kids, 2 Years On would be a fine example of this, as its summary follows:

This effectively is how a group of friends and I would write the plot for Snowboard Kids 3. What started as just a fun race at Dizzy land turns out to be a big event when Richard Maltinie is done with his arrangements...

So, even though things like experience levels and other parameters will be acknowledged (in their case, identifiable by a Pokedex), the actual fic wouldn't feel so rigid as an actual game. That's exactly the whole point of the fic: gameplay-like rules and aspects apply, but not to the point that it doesn't feel like a story anymore.
