Yesterday, I picked out a worksheet in one of my Psychology textbooks, which asked me to pick out a newspaper comic and write about the cultural references. I looked through one of our The Far Side Gallery books, and came across quite a few that had cultural references. I showed Mom, and picked out one where the Three Blind Mice hide from the Farmer's Wife, and one of them says she must've really flipped out this time.

Another notable one has pairs of each animal running towards a space shuttle, just like Noah's Ark sheltered two of each animal. This reminded Mom and Dad of one of the standout pages in The Far Side Mix-Up (which I wrote about more than a year ago), called "Noah's Ark sinks". It was basically a big circle with lots of smaller circles inside, to represent the water and drowning bubbles.

Anyway, I showed Jake the Three Blind Mice comic, and he told me that his culture has its own set of nursery rhymes. He thought up a similar joke based on a song called Boi de Cara Preta/Branca (Black-/White-Faced Ox), and I used it to complete the worksheet.

Now that I actually had something other than Hikari Tsurugino's hair to bring up with Jake, I then proceeded to ask him for his opinion on the length of said girl's hair (which he said he doesn't know).

Hair fetish stuff; Mai and Hikari Tsurugino )

Yesterday, Mom drove me to the library to work on another worksheet, which would deal with self-help books. When we got there, Mom discovered an oil leak underneath the hood of our van. Needless to say, that means that we're gonna need to get the van repaired too, on the same day that we're getting the car back. Because of this, Mom will be staying home from work today.
