How do I go on about a giant-sized RPG?
Dec. 14th, 2009 07:51 amBefore I get started, let me establish that, for Monster Collection Chronicles, I have reduced the number of Knights on the team to twelve. I did mention this before, but only in an lj-cut which I have reason to assume Chelle didn't bother reading. I'll come back to that in another entry.
Now, for the real content:
Fanservice aside, the idea of having an RPG (or fic-equivalent to one) where the party spends much of their time as giants has piqued my interest ever since I found out about the Anime Giantess RPG not too long ago. Well, yeah, it's called that because there are indeed giant girls in it, but half the time, you are a midgit in danger of being crushed by normal-sized girls.
In most RPGs, most of the enemies you fight are pretty close to human-size, and even the bosses, while usually much larger, are not even close to fifty feet in height. There are also Zone of the Enders and Super Robot Wars games, both of which involve battling with giant robots (piloted by normal-sized humans), but to me, that's not the same thing.
On the other hand, we have Mon Colle Knights, where most monsters that either the Knights or Prince Eccentro use are gigantic. This is, needless to say, the anime that Monster Collection Chronicles is based on. For this, I'm already enabling Mondo, Rockna, and each of the Supporting Knights to fight on their own, but in fact, becoming larger than life would be useless if they couldn't do that first. And, since they are summoners, they could also summon other giants to travel and fight alongside them (something they could also do with the smaller monsters at their default size). And to top it all off, whereas most of the time only one or a few Knights at a time would be huge, they would all grow at the end of the first fic when they fight Warp and ex-Knight Katsuo (both also in giant-form).
When need be, such as entering a town, they would be able to revert back to their original sizes.
Problems?
One. There are also pint-sized monsters as well. Most notably, Lovestar, even though she herself grew after drinking some enchanted water.
Two, are there enough Monsters left that didn't appear in the anime?
Three, another idea I like to toy around with happens to be super-speed. Whenever I play a Sonic the Hedgehog game or watch a gameplay video, the idea of having any of them (especially Mondo) being able to run really fast and dodge stuff with ease excites me. (Not to mention that ring device that keeps the characters together in Knuckles Chaotix. That's cool too!) Will there be room for something like that if I decide to enable the Knights to grow?
So, is anything else viable?
Well, not Parasitic Trio. Shortly before I first wrote about that one, I *did* toy around with the idea of having the three mains growing when necessary, so that more people see them when they lose their clothes. (No such thing will happen in MCC.) However, for the most part, they have no reason to grow, since most Pokemon and Trainers are normal-sized.
Digimon might seem viable. There are some giant-sized Digimon in the franchise, and even an episode in Tamers where a Digimon grows to battle an already massive one. During the last main arc of Digimon Royale (my fanfic), each of the main characters is enabled to fight on their own, as well as have their Digimon fight for (or with) them, but they still can't fight in their human forms. So, that one's out.
And finally, Ultimate Girls. Out, because when the Girls are transformed, their clothes can only be retained for three minutes. No way one can expect them to explore in that kind of a situation. Besides which, all fighting takes place in Tokyo anyway, except for the last battle in my second fic, which will take place in another dimension.
Hmmmm... Not sure what to make of a giant-sized RPG.
