Dec. 6th, 2010 06:24 amJust a reminder to myself: I've showed Angelic Awakening to Chelle twice already. The first time in a comment exchange after I wrote my Purity transformation drabble, and the second time in a PM exchange not too long ago. Don't wanna get on her nerves by forgetting this and showing her a third time.

Found a site two days ago that will supposedly actually help me to learn kanji.
http://readjapanesefast.com/
The quiz website is useless because I'm not actually using the characters in context, which is why I tend to forget most of them. Same reason why just reading words out of a dictionary is useless. However, what's important is that it teaches realistic dialogue and writing, instead of yet more formulaic exchanges between "Mr. Smith and Mr. Tanaka" or whatever generic names most textbook writers come up with. The site even has a free video where you read along with an email, during which I was able to pause and read the entire second half before letting the speaker continue.
Mom advised me to try out other websites. I looked at Mango, just more basic stuff. The next day, she had me research people's answers about Rosetta Stone, and in fact, most people think it sucks. One person did suggest JapaneseClass.jp, but that didn't look too good when I tried it out.
So, what it comes down to, I paid $61 at risk of getting cheated, and got exactly what the website promised.
Y'know, it's times like these when I'm most inclined to play Getter Love!! I delude myself that I'll actually try to read what everyone's saying, and then end up just skipping through everything and answering questions by rolling a die instead. Kanji is exactly why I have trouble reading it. Who wants to have to keep consulting a dictionary and pinpointing every single character that comes up? No one! That's why I need something that will teach me to read kanji much more efficiently than the quiz site.
