Jan. 2nd, 2011 06:18 amBrian drove me, Marie, and Jacob to Bagels Your Way Cafe for lunch. I had a garlic bagel w/ cream cheese, a fudge brownie, and a Yoo-Hoo. Also did a better job socializing with everyone than at Friendly's a month ago. Jacob asked me if I ever intend to drink, and I told him that I don't, and also that someone once asked me the same thing back in Suffolk if I intend to do so on my 21st birthday. After all the "say no to drugs/alcohol" messages we all get in school, I really don't see any reason to bother. Lots of people do it as a social thing, but that reason's irrelevant to me because I hardly have anything of a social life outside the Internet.)
He also asked me if I own a Wii. I told him I intend to buy one now that I have a BestBuy card, but Brian told me that they're relatively cheap on Ebay nowadays. Last time I checked, though, those things ran for hundreds of dollars, so I'm gonna have to check again. Marie said something about Wii Fit, I told everyone that I'm mainly interested in Pokemon Battle Revolution (after I complete Pokemon Diamond), and Brian is more interested in a few games for the Playstation 3.
I also remember talking with Brian about what life is like for university professors, such as their pay and competition for tenure.
(The previous day, they had also gone to the mall, but I declined because I was too absorbed in Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs. Same reason why I haven't contacted Jake, even though I promised him the day yet before that we could start some RP that he'd like to do.)
-----
Later on, Marie and Jacob were planning to bring me and Brian to see a movie. They showed me the trailer for Tron, but I decided that I didn't really feel like seeing any movie. They then suggested we go bowling, but told me that Brian would have to be interested. I went up into the apartment, where he's been sleeping and doing schoolwork, and he declined. So, the three of them went to see True Grit, while I stayed home and continued to play my game.
Let me tell you, the first level in the Ice Temple is so intense that, after I finally cleared it, I had already given myself a bit of a headache and decided to call it a night.
-----
Shortly before midnight, they came home with Brian's friend Talia, and offered to bring me to Applebee's with them. By then, I had already drifted off to sleep, and was extremely drowsy upon waking up. I did gradually wake up, though, but it took a while.
So anyway, we all went there for appetizers, since prices for those were halved for the time being. Brian and Marie thought I was too tired to pay attention to what they were saying, but I could hear them talking about buying slurpees at 7-Eleven before jokingly telling me that we're not getting dessert. I told them that I noticed what they were saying to each other, and it turned out they were trying to keep it a surprise. At some point later, though, I told them that I didn't even feel like having one.
Several separate moments while we were there, I also talked a bit about Pokemon with Jacob and Talia. Jacob remembers the days when there were only 151 Pokemon. He asked me how many there are nowadays, but I didn't really pay attention to the current number, although it has exceeded 600. He used to be a big fan of the games back then, but hasn't really played anything ever since Red/Blue. I told him that I didn't become interested in the fandom until right after the big craze waned. He asked me which game I'm playing, which was the aforementioned Guardian Signs, and also if there is an alternate version to that game. I told him that it's actually the third installment in a spinoff series. (I have heard of three versions of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2, though, for which there's Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness, and Explorers of Sky.) Talia says she remembers playing Yellow, where you have Pikachu follow you (just like with Ash in the anime).
Everyone continued talking with one another, and I just listened in for opportunities to say anything. I should note that Marie and Jacob have been watching this show called Dexter on Marie's laptop, and Jacob told Brian that the title reminds him of Dexter's Laboratory. They talked briefly about the latter show, about what they remember from when they used to watch it. While they were talking about shows they used to watch as kids, Marie and Talia joined in on the topic, and one of them brought up Wishbone. And then they all brought up at least four Nicktoons, and I just got up and excused myself to walk some laps around the building. I didn't bother bringing my jacket with me, because I felt like having the cool winter air get to me, and having allowed myself to go for a walk perked me the rest of the way up.
I came back inside right before we left, and we just had to wait half a minute for Talia to come out of the restroom. On the way home, everyone decided not to get slurpees after all. We just came went right home, Talia went home, and I think so did Jacob.
