Mom and Dad have been planning on rearranging the computer desk and the futon, so they took to emptying and removing the drawers two nights ago. They had me bring up the garbage can in the basement so that they could throw a bunch of stuff out. A lot of it was games that no one plays anymore, and while I don't have nearly so much concern for non-games such as Quicken, I see it as rather wasteful to throw away games. Or, it would be, if they were still playable. I looked at the disk for Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, and it had a pretty big scratch on it, which essentially means it's not worth selling on Ebay.

Then again, this isn't the first time we threw away games (especially since there hadn't always been Ebay), although most of those games were other computer games (some of which were for DOS, which we haven't had in ages). The exceptions would be Mortal Kombat Trilogy (never knew what Mom and Dad actually did with that one), our original copy of Yoshi's Island (we used to have two copies at one point, though I don't know where the second copy came from), and the few games we had for the Game Gear (along with the Game Gear itself).

This came up again just yesterday afternoon, when I brought up the illusion that the Internet brings that everything that currently exists will be around forever, even if they're not available in stores anymore. In truth, people are gonna simply discard a lot of them, and in years to come, most of what does remain will die out on its own. Just look at the Angry Video Game Nerd's Pong video, where half the consoles he presents hardly work anymore. It's like, everything might as well have had the lifespan of an Atari 5200 controller.

Went with Dad to the landfill yesterday morning to get rid of some branches that he's had me cut down and can for the previous few days.

Also continued with Mother 3 for the first time in said few days (since I was so busy cutting and canning all those branches), but only long enough to backtrack to Osohe Castle and challenge the Ghost Knight right after chapter 5 begins.
