Feb. 4th, 2012 06:33 amYesterday morning, Dad asked me if the computer had been giving me problems. I said no and asked why, and he said "nothing". Not long afterwards, I overheard him cursing to himself, and asked him what was wrong. He told me that he somehow lost files. I told him about having moved them to our external hard drive about a week ago, and he got mad at me. When I opened the drive up, it turned out that whatever he was looking for wasn't even there, and he told me that he had lost everything past last year as a result of my actions.
I then sorted everything in the folder they had previously been in by date, and noticed that there was still stuff dating as far back as January 2005. I showed him, and he told me he wasn't concerned so much about stuff that old, and told me just to stay out of his files.
(Even though the option to copy stuff was always available, I chose to cut everything that I moved onto Verbatim because I was specifically trying to get stuff off of the main hard drive in order to let the computer run faster. I made a point not telling Dad that it had anything to do with my games, even though he asked about five times why I did it.)
Even though I didn't get permission from him or Mom to tamper with their files, I thought it would be reasonable to expect, despite the large number of files, that every single file and folder within the main ones be moved with the folders themselves, instead of being lost altogether. However, when I compared both copies of the folders, I noticed that there were files and folders still on Verbatim that hadn't been restored to the computer. It even turns out I'm not the first person to have this happen to.
Emailed both Mom and Brian about the situation shortly after Dad left. Afterwards, I spent the day doing more household chores than I do even when Mom or Dad ask for anything in particular, although I did spend part of my day writing a test run of the second Battle Frontier arc for Parasitic Trio (no Pokemon or battle details; just a skeleton of what could happen). Mom did tell me not to continue beating myself up over what happened when she got home, and to just apologize to Dad when he gets home, although I did help her make dinner (for the second time recently, since I do need to learn how to cook for myself).
