Jun. 17th, 2012 07:21 amYesterday, I notices some kind of beetle on our lightpost, which had something that looked like a stinger coming out of its rear end. I called Marie over to come see, and then we both got Mom and Dad to come see it as well.
Mom asked Marie to Google it, and it turns out to be a long-necked root borer. It feeds on plant roots, and that "stinger" is actually its means of laying eggs.
Mom told us that if we see it again, we should throw it over the fence into the woods separating our yard from the Bernackis', since they're not good for plants and are kinda gross to squish. I did just that when I went outside again, picking it up with two pieces of scrapwood that Dad had in a garbage can.
