Internet's down at home right now. Writing this from the library computer lab.

Had a hurricane two days ago. We had the Internet and power for most of that day, so I was able to play Earthbound on my laptop. Managed to clear the Dusty Dunes Desert gold mine, but I'm putting this playthrough on hiatus for now, I would like the maps on Starmen.net right on hand for other complex areas such as Moonside and the monkey caves. (The librarian I spoke to told me not to print anything here, and the maps are a bit too big to print anyway, but I can see several people in the rows in front of me playing Minecraft right now.)

Dad got my help to bring the generator out onto the driveway from the basement and into the garage when he came home that day, but didn't bother plugging anything in until the next morning [yesterday]. The power went out shortly before 7, and then we got some candles and flourescent flashlights out before getting ready for bed.

Got up the next morning at around 5 or 6. Sure was nice being in the dark without all the lights from the computer, the DVD player, the stove and the microwave, although my laptop was still on (I turned it off at around 6:37).

Spent all of yesterday moving branches to Long Island Avenue. Sure was a mess everywhere. The same ivypatch tree that had lost its top section a year and a half ago had fallen down altogether. Another tree had fallen onto the house directly across LIA from us, but didn't seem to have left any real damage. Down Masem Court, yet another tree had snapped in half in front of the brick house where Nick and Tiffany live, stretching the power lines in front of it (and having snapped one of the bare-metal ones) and cutting into the McCormicks' yard from across the street.

Sue Grasso came to greet Mom while she and I were cleaning up under the pine trees near Masem, and I went to greet her upon noticing. Later on, I noticed Mrs. Nancy Lupfer, her third son Jack, her mother Helen, and Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz talking on Long Island Avenue. Went to say hi to them, and Nancy told me that she and her family still had power in case we needed anything from them. I told Mom for her, but so far, we've been able to manage things ourselves.

Also met these two people named Debby and Artie on Masem Court last night. They had parked this KONE Elevator/Escalator minivan, which is usually in front of the last house to the left on Masem, in front of the Weidner's house across from us. Debby asked me if I knew this girl named Desiree, but the only girl I've ever known with that name was this hispanic girl from 2nd and 3rd grades. Mentioned to Mom about having chatted with them, and it turns out that that girl used to play with Janie Weidner, a few years older than us.

As of today, I managed to move some more sticks to Long Island Avenue, cut up some really big branches that fell, and also powered up our home computer so that I could update the Starbound outline. However, Mom called me to ask me to run the generator as little as possible. According to her, Hamid down in Patchogue had told Dad that there wouldn't be any oil for sale (probably until things blow over), so we have to conserve what we've got for the time being. Left the generator on for just long enough to make whatever revisions I needed to make to the outline.

Having checked my messages here, I was able to clear out five spam messages from my email account, got two comments from Brian (who I can tell didn't sign in first, but no biggie), and also got a circulation notice from the library regarding Spice & Wolf. Also hoping that Chelle will get back to me regarding the first draft of Starbound, chapter 1, by the time everything's up and running again at home. On DeviantArt, I got six messages pertaining to Job Offers. Accepted two new members, rejected two commission info sheets, and will have to look at two pieces of art to see whether they were anything that someone ordered through the group once everything's back in order.

Anyway, Happy Halloween, everyone! We're not likely gonna get any trick-or-treaters this year, due to the precarious situation the power lines are all in. On the other hand, check out this wierd-ass hack of Earthbound. It gets more and more fucked up the further into it you play or watch:
