Dad didn't go to the shop, but he did have to go to the post office and his bank. He invited me to come along with him. Between stops, we stopped at the gas station on Route 101, and I turned in that card.

As it turns out, the "free play" is actually for a regular ticket. Looked up the prizes and drawing times for Take 5 when we got home, and it turns out that each game ends every night at 11:21 PM. While visiting the website, I also discovered some other daily games and two other semi-weekly games called Sweet Million (Mondays and Thursdays) and New York Lotto (Wednesdays and Saturdays, for $1). Even found some pages where I can look up which scratch card brands are still active at any given time. This gives me a whole new way to determine which game or card brand I'll shell a few bucks for ahead of time, negating any reason to waste time seeing what's at any given store for a given price. (Vending machine choices can still be made through coin tosses and watch digits.)

And... I only got one matching number on my ticket. No prize.

Originally, I intended this to be a way to get rid of tiny amounts of money that aren't worth making a bank trip just for, given how annoying single $1 or $5 bills are to carry around. However, we do also have an entire jar of change each in one of our kitchen cupboards and in the basement, from which we take money each time we need something, such as bus fare. Mom and Dad themselves like to buy PowerBall tickets, but they only buy one each week, or somewhere around there. As for me, even though I don't have any cash on me most of the time, I could very easily take a bunch of quarters to gamble with whenever I wanted to, until I've drained both jars dry of money. By the time that happens, I might just find myself going as far as to break tens, twenties, fifties, or hundreds, or even spending debit on scratchoffs or lotto tickets, something which I've already established rules against.

For now, I've decided that the next brand I pay for will be Green Line Cashword, unless I get any singles to keep in my wallet, in which I'll probably re-decide. In the meantime, I need to get my mind off of this whole thing. What better game to play for that purpose than Getter Love!!, in which I'll spend a few hours playing each round and probably will not go anywhere with Mom or Dad during a round unless it's for anything important. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle just isn't holding my interest enough, and right now, I don't feel like continuing with Kanji in Context.
