More than a year ago, shortly after I got started with Kanji in Context (more specifically, when I got started with Unit III, after completing the much shorter combined first two units), I planned on playing Earthbound and Earthbound Zero a bit at a time in-between lessons, so that I wouldn't get bored. In practice, I ended up not getting very far into either game for the time, because I found myself having so much fun anyway just doing the lessons. Roughly halfway through, though, months before I first actively got into Mega Man, I found myself longing for the days when I first discovered Nintendo Power magazine and getting bored of KiC at the same time. Initially, I was gonna hold off with buying any back issues from Ebay until I complete at least Unit III, if not the whole course, but then decided that I needed a breather. So, I found an Ebay auction specifically for volumes 69-79, watched it, and pressed on with kanji while waiting for that one auction to end and then waiting for the magazines themselves to arrive.

It's been a whole month now since I've been dropped off in New Jersey to keep Grandpa Bob company. I do appreciate how little he and Uncle Robby have asked of me, as I was able to work on some of the chapters for Starbound that I had Chelle critique during my first week here. That copy of Mother: The Original Story that I ordered from Japan also couldn't have come at a better time, given the arrangements Mom and I made for me to stay even longer. Upon receiving that, the first thing I did with it was to write everything in the first three chapters in romaji, purely out of inclination. At first, I had a whole lot of fun with it, but it wore off before long. Chapter 1 was 17 pages long, 2 was 32 pages, 3 was 48 pages, and the fourth is 54 pages long. The book itself is a total of 375 pages long, including the title pages and the afterword.

Started writing the actual translation onto TextEdit just yesterday, but right now, I'm just out of steam. I wanna come home and play either Angry Birds or Getter Love!!, but the circumstances right now all demand that I stay here for yet another week. Mom has to help Marie move out of Boston this coming weekend, but will be on vacation the week after next; Dad injured his knee while running with a wheelbarrow full of clay dirt, had to have his leg elevated for three days, and is gonna need an operation tomorrow or something. Brian is staying in New York this weekend, and Uncle Robby is leaving this weekend to visit Grandma Ella, leaving only me to keep Grandpa company. Right now, I really could use some critique from Chelle on the second-to-last chapters for Starbound that I sent her, but she told me that she isn't likely to get around to critiquing it anytime soon due to her own agenda.

(Yeah, I have my Nintendo DS with Metal Slug 7 and those three games I bought at the thrift store, but I tried playing Yoshi's Island DS, and it just didn't hold my interest that much. Maybe another day with those.)

And then Angry Birds itself will probably be its own can of worms when I finally do come home, but I'll get to that in a bit.

(To be fair, I think part of it might also be that I just established an account on the Lucky Star Shrine Forum yesterday, made a bunch of posts, and so far, have only gotten one reply from anyone. Maybe that's a bit of a distraction right now, or something, as well as being boring to be right on my laptop where I have immediate access to the Internet while people take a while to post anything.)

Right now, after having spoken with me on the phone, Mom sent me an email and asked if she should send my Nintendo 64 down here, letting me know that it probably won't get here until Saturday if she sends it today. I replied and told her that that might be soon enough if I'm gonna be here for a whole week afterwards. Chances are, I'll just hook the thing up on the living room TV. Uncle Robby works for most of the day on weekdays, usually coming home at around 7 or 8, and Grandpa has his own TV set in his room, where he's situated for most of the day when he's not running errands. So, yeah, that might work out.

Now here's the deal with Angry Birds:

I've been playing exclusively on our main computer ever since Brian installed a memory card to it almost a year ago. If there was a regular Macintosh version of each game (as opposed to the Google Chrome version, which has not nearly as much content), I would've been playing that on my old laptop (the one that now needs an external monitor) long beforehand. But, how it works, is that you go to the Angry Birds store, and you don't buy the games themselves, but the installation packs for each of them. I have successfully googled for a way to transfer all my saved data between computers without having to buy another installation pack, so at least that bit's solved.

(Jake actually told me today that he assumed that I play the iPhone version like most people, but in fact, I don't even have one of those, just a normal cell phone to make calls with.)

Right now, the computer we brought home from Dad's workshop runs really slow, and Brian has yet to look into fixing that. That currently leaves me with our main PC and Roku, both of which Dad use depending on whether he feels like using the Internet or watching TV at a given time. At least on Roku, I won't have any fidgeting to deal with. However, things were so much better for me when Mom and Dad were both at work, and now that Dad no longer has a job, the time of day isn't gonna make any more of difference than it ever did on weekends as to when he's likely to ask me to let him on the computer to to do something for him.

-----

In any case, given the whole situation, I think I would like Mom to mail me my game to play for until she or Dad's ready to pick me up. I'll spend some time with that, and then see the translation of MTOS chapter 1 through whenever I get bored of it, before spending some time with Angry Birds.
