May. 18th, 2014 08:55 amYesterday, Mom, Dad, Grandma, Marie, and I all went to the Cloisters museum in New York City, featuring various plants and religious artwork and artifacts from medieval and Renaissance Europe. Brian went somewhere to see some of his friends for Lauren's birthday.
During our time there, Grandma met up with a couple of friends of her own. We also spotted a few woodchucks from a balcony above, and one of them was apparently the mother of the other two. Mom also asked me if the experience reminds me of anything; I answered with the Vanderbilt Museum and Old Westbury Garden that we went to back in August 2008.
At some point, Mom and Dad decided to get themselves some coffees. Marie and I waited at the balcony for a bit, before deciding to catch up with them. I then decided to go see if anything at the food counter would interest me, and on my way there, asked a total of four people for soda bottle caps. Marie came up to me before I could ask a fifth (I even noticed her approaching while I asked around), and called me out for my actions, telling me that if I'm still there after she leaves, Dad will have a word with me. Mom then brought me outside not long after to ask me why I continue to do this even after she and Marie and even Uncle Robby told me beforehand that such behavior is inappropriate, and asked me if I was gonna ruin our time there over something petty. I decided I would drop the issue and refrain from asking anyone else for caps, because I am above ruining special occasions like this.
At some point, Marie left to catch up with Brian. Grandma was already elsewhere with her friends, and my parents and I left the museum and spent some time on the lawn out front. Mom and Dad chatted with each other for a short while, and then Dad left to find Grandma. Mom then asked me what compels me to ask people for bottlecaps, and I told her that I'm trying to win gift cards on MyCokeRewards. She equated what I do with scratching my balls in public (which I don't do but don't equate either with making simple requests like that), said that asking for a few cents to pay something off is not so inappropriate as something weird like their bottle caps, told me that these people probably only give me their caps to get rid of me, and also that someone might one day Mace me or call security. Furthermore, given that I never actually won any raffles on MCR, she said that the trouble I put myself and others through probably isn't even worth shit.
(Okay, maybe I went a little too far by asking multiple people consecutively for caps. More about this in another entry.)
Dad and Grandma regrouped with us shortly after, and the four of us went back home. Brian and Marie were still out with their friends, but came home with Lauren after I had already gone off to bed. (Lauren slept over on the futon in the office; I noticed this morning after I had woken up.)
