Jun. 17th, 2015 06:35 amI know Chelle is not the be-all-end-all when it comes to artwork or story critiques, but honestly, I'm not sure how to actually go on about finding others to critique stuff I write or commission for. I once did try joining a critique group on DeviantArt, but that didn't pan out, and I'm not really comfortable with going up to random people I've never met and asking them to look over stuff.
In question right now are two different pics of Homura that I'm gonna have agataylor combine into one when they're finished. I've just copied and pasted the heads, busts, hands, and legs into separate images for Chelle to look over, so that she doesn't have to look at an entire fat-pic (especially of someone from a favorite anime of hers). However, while she is capable of looking over hands and fingers from such images, legs are a different issue. I once showed her just the girls' legs in this image's sketch, and upon bringing it up again later, she told me it was still too squicky for her to deal with. (For that reason, I had also given the legs to kymyit to look over, since she had gotten those right with her own pics.)
Just last night, I had a look through my Fat girls folder, and noticed that everyone facing diagonally (except for Mai, the only one Chelle was able to wholly critique, and the Beehive Brigade, which was done by kymyit) has the same problem with the legs as with Homura. I shouldn't be surprised, because Chelle was just barely able to critique Minami, the first of the sumo girls drawn up. I only showed that one and the next few to her because of how much more capable she was of helping me with the respective story than she would be of anything involving "normal" obesity. That pic with the Brigade on the stage was the first fat-pic I had ever commissioned for, and I didn't show it to her because she had already expressed revulsion when I merely mentioned (in minimal detail) the idea of any weight-gain being involved in Starbound. I shouldn't be surprised if there happens to be anything wrong with that pic too.
Well, it doesn't help that agataylor has already mailed me the physical copies of everything she's done prior to now, and I'm glad I was able to ask her to redraw sumo-Kagami's fingers into a more natural position before she did so. But, since the images are still enjoyable to look at in general, it's not like there's any point letting some anatomical flaws ruin them. I mean, that is the reason I have Chelle critique them (ever since she took it upon herself in September '08 to critique some stuff I had drawn up myself beforehand). Even Jake said when I brought it up with him, that he tends not to notice every little detail in anything he likes, unless it's on something he pays the most attention to. Basically the same deal between me and anything I read; while I do make a point of having Chelle beta-read stuff I write, I tend to go on an only-if-I-notice basis with anything someone else draws or writes without any involvement by me.
