Jun. 25th, 2015 07:43 amTwo days ago, I received one of the letters I sent out to PayPal back, which was marked that the address in question is now defunct. I left it on the table with the rest of the mail, and Mom suggested upon noticing that we keep the letter to send to someone else.
There were a handful of companies that I could not properly contact about Autism Speaks when I made a point of that. ShopRite, Vivint, and Zales were those three to donate the highest amounts, ranking in Founder's Circle ($1-5 hundred thousand).
After making sure that I was able to contact the others before, I rolled a die, landed a 3, and picked Zales to send to. After sealing that one up, I decided to print a letter up to send to one more, since there was only one stamp left on the strip I took from. So, I printed up a new copy, but some links that I included in it failed to appear due to having used up what little colored ink we had left.
Brought it up with Mom when she came home, and to start off, she suggested that I command the printer to use only black ink, and mark the links with a highlighter. Then, she asked why I can't simply email them, since that's what most people do. I showed her why, and I'll also explain here in just a bit.
Yesterday, I looked for a highlighter that she and I both assumed we still have, but to no avail. Mom was at the boatyard with Dad, and I waited for her to return home and settle down before bringing it up. Some discussion about it led to her deciding that she'll get some colored ink when Staples starts offering back-to-school discounts on stuff, something she says she receives all the time, and in the meantime, I would pick up some highlighters in Stop-n-Shop during her time in Savers after we finish our gym visit for the day. (Dad offered to get some ink himself when we got home, after having thought about it and saying that he needs to print something up himself.)

As to why I made a point of sending letters instead of emails, with PayPal, I already mentioned that there were no options to contact them about affiliate decisions or "Other", which, combined with a failed phone call, is exactly how I came across an offsite page listing all kinds of real contact information in the first place.
Regarding Zales, here is the page that Boycott Autism Speaks' Contact Sponsors page (which, admittedly, is not up to date) leads to:
http://www.zales.com/helpdesk/index.jsp?display=store&subdisplay=contact
The dropdown under "This message is about" lists nothing resembling business decisions or unspecified issues. That should say enough.
As for ShopRite:
http://www.shoprite.com/contact-us/contact-us-form-email/
Okay, so I can pick "Donations" under "My communication is about..." Check. Next thing worth noting is "Store Location". Obviously, the issue here isn't about a specific store, but okay, I suppose I could just pick the one in Patchogue.
Then there's the actual message box. I paste everything I've written up into it, click Submit, and nothing happens. I don't even see a progress wheel, as the cursor or in the tab.
That is why I had taken to printing up another letter to send out, along with the one I received back originally intended for PayPal (no point letting that one go to waste).
Might send more letters out in the future, depending on how successful I am with everyone I've contacted already.
