Blue, the neighborhood peacock, is dead.

What Mom heard from Nancy Lupfer, was that a landscaper started mowing the Labbys' property and startled him, and he ran into the street and got hit by a car. (The time being 8 PM did not help.) Donna's regular vet was on vacation, and so she had to take him to a different vet for surgery. It didn't pan out, so she brought him home to recover, and he died within several days.

Oddly enough, I just had a small chat with Nancy and two of her sons Jack and Peter the other day while strolling down Long Island Avenue, and that's when I found out the bird's name when she noticed him across the street.

Mom told me yesterday that he didn't actually belong to the Labbys. Previously, several people on Masem Court took care of him before them, and he must have escaped from a wildlife preserve or something before making its way here.

But anyway, here's a picture of him. We were never able to get one of him fanning his feathers out, because that was something he rarely did to begin with.

Managed to upload five episodes of Lucky Star on YouTube two days ago, only to find out yesterday morning that they're blocked. Only I was able to view them (under my real name; more on that in a bit) before I took them down.

I actually had noticed one of them blocked beforehand, but I initially chalked that up to some kind of glitch. I had yet to realize at that time that the site is currently treating real names and gmail names as separate accounts, at which point it was already off my mind.

The fact that the site blocks stuff like this upon processing it makes me wonder how some people still have stuff up that isn't even butchered in any way (thinned up, sped up, dimmed, etc.), or why some episodes (or parts of each one) under any person's account are up while others aren't. One person still has episodes 7 and 20 up for viewing, but on another person's account who has them in their channel, even those two are blocked along with everything else.

Well, my time wasn't wasted completely on this. What I really wanted was to have stuff to link to, particularly when it comes time to seek voice actors and show what everyone's voices sound like for emulation. Tried uploading a clip containing both scenes with my current favorite song, and at least that worked.

If I understand the concept of Fair Use correctly after having read about it, I might be able to argue that for anything I might upload to link to for context purposes, complete with some reasoning in the description and a link back to wherever it originates. (If that isn't the case, then I might render stuff unlisted to make it harder to detect.)

A few other things I learned along the way:

-Don't close your laptop while ripping with HandBrake. That's how the program ended up thinking its job was done too early on with DVD volume 1.

-Don't try uploading more than one thing at a time. It slows progress down and can blur your shit up.

-Likewise, don't try doing too many things on your laptop. I tried to get Prism to convert my clips to MP4 for faster uploads, and later, to try cutting my ripped footage down to episodes while that was going on. This ended up freezing an episode's progress at 83%, and I had to abort it and start over. It also drains the machine's battery power faster than normal.
