Spent a total of five days (actually four and a half, since I started mid-day last Sunday) playing Chinchon and losing way more often than winning. There was the occasional player I was actually able to kick ass against, but it had grown incredibly frustrating trying to win back chips only to lose more and more against everyone else.

Told that to Mom when she came into my room yesterday afternoon, after she had asked if I was losing the round I was on. She then asked if I spent money on it, and I admitted to having spent 100 euros ($107.47) for one lot of 7 million chips (I was just barely above 30,000 left at that point, although I had spent a lot of them on the slots, bingo, and poker sidegames as well), and, she had a fit with me.

Her point about gambling addictions was obvious enough. However, she also brought up the fact that I don't make that kind of money easily, relying mostly on chores, recycling, and weekly allowances. Let me mention that that last thing was something we explicitly agreed on two years ago so that I can spend part of it on the lottery, instead of me continually taking quarters from our two change jars, and I end up not even spending most of it anyway (except sometimes on lunch when we run errands).

At some point, I asked her why the game is so geared against me, since she did mention that during her rant. She told me that it's because most of those people do nothing but play cards, and they know the odds of receiving a given card and how to exploit their opponents' patterns. She compared it to laser-tag and paintball (probably recalling any experiences Brian or Marie would have shared with her in the past), but really, it's like just about anything, be it mental or physical; there is a difference between doing it and actually mastering it.

In any case, that's gonna be the end of it. Even a promotion for 205% chip purchases that I missed while making a regular one has become a moot point. Got one more free lot of 1,000 chips to claim tomorrow, and that's gonna be the last of it. Casino games are off the table from now on, whenever I decide to pick a new game via RandomInteger to play either between spritesheets or to alternate with one.

On the plus side, I now have a new card game to share with everyone next time any of us go down to Virginia, which I even mentioned to Grandma Barbara over the phone two days ago. I've already invited everyone on my Friends list to play the game, and will be sure to share all my remaining chips with Brian, Marie, or Aunt Marie if they so decide to try it out themselves. (Grandma told me that Aunt Marie is currently in Jamaica, but Brian and Marie are due to come home in just more than a week, so I can ask them face-to-face then.)

Found out from Mom that there are supposed to be some meteor showers going on right now. Went outside several times in the middle of the night two nights ago, and while the stars are visible enough, I wasn't able to spot any shooting ones at any hour whatsoever.

Probably not a big deal, though. I do remember going with my whole family to the beach to observe some one night in November 2001. It was interesting, but not a big enough deal for me to override how cold it was and how tired I was. I also remember passing on an opportunity at Marie's school a few years later, since I didn't want to be tired for school the next day.
