Jan. 3rd, 2016 05:34 amBrian told me on our way to the mall the other day, that he had finally found someone who can start putting Day of the Beehive together. If I understand correctly, I think he also said something about moving the story along as well, but I'll have to ask if that was really the case.
I find this really uplifting. Up until then, I was expecting to have to create at least all the field sprites on my own, in order to garner interest from anyone in the project. Timing is pretty good too, considering the circumstances I described the other day, although I do still wish to write something Madoka-related sometime soon.

Two days ago, he asked me to begin with maps. We have agreed to start with Ryouou High School, since that's where Starbound's first scene and a few scenes after the second all take place. I just spent two days taking as many screenshots as possible, in addition to what I had compiled two years ago, and creating some files in NotePad containing episode and time information for each scene taken from (w/ links to the main series' English dub, those two photograph pages, and one to the OVA), so that we get as much of the building's anatomy right as possible.
Next will be Tsukasa and Kagami's house (which I also have a head start on from before) and the towns of Kuki, Satte, Kasukabe, and Tokyo (which I will look up on Google Earth from between 2000 and '09).

Moving on, since Brian has expressed interest in Earthbound Zero (a.k.a. Earthbound Beginnings) and Mother 3, it is possible that I might buy him a Nintendo Wii U for Christmas next year, on which I will download at least Earthbound and EBB onto the Virtual Console. I do understand that M3 has recently been released for the Wii U VC in Japan, but this forum thread from a year ago cites a number of different obstacles it faces for localization (although what it says about music shouldn't be an issue, since EB's soundtrack managed to remain intact despite all its musical references).
It is no secret that the time Earthbound took to finally get re-released here had to do with avoiding potential copyright lawsuits over various references to stuff. As stated in the thread, the fact that it finally did had much to do with how poorly the Wii U was faring in sales. People in the thread also acknowledged how unlikely it was that its prequel would ever be re-released (this was half a year before it actually was), and there's also a key difference between that game and M3 with the former having already been translated officially (albeit right before being cancelled for American sales).
But anyway, the reason I would rather pay for a new system than let him use emulators has mainly to do with Mother 3. As I described before, I had initially played the game on the Macintosh version of Visual Boy Advance, for which I had to use savestates to get as far as I did that time. I couldn't save my data in an in-game file, which is important (particularly on Tanetane Island) in order to complete the Battle Memory.
Tried out Boycott Advance on my laptop the other day, but that one can't even run the game.
Insignificant as it may be, I would prefer if Brian had the option of going for the full experience, rather than just aiming to complete the game itself.
(I could have downloaded EB0 and FCE Ultra onto his computer w/ a note on how to play that game, but it might be more convenient to have all three games in one place.)
Well, here are some YouTube videos I just found, which show a way to go even further and save files on Pokemon games whose original internal clock had run dry:

If Mother 3 ends up coming out for the Virtual Console sometime this new year, I might still consider buying the system and supporting Nintendo for finally meeting its fans' demands. Emulators are a bit tricky to use (Brian's only experience is w/ SNES9X for Windows), and playing the real thing is always more ethical and fulfilling than playing ROMs.
