Well, to start with, it was [now three] years ago that I first browsed the Lucky Star archive on Fanfiction.net, after having published Starbound to it and becoming part of a new community. People who might read my own story, and whose own stories would be worth taking in in exchange. I had the good pleasure of reading such stories as To Blossom In Winter, Miyuki Magic, A Cluster of Stars, and several much darker stories. Even one of my least favorite stories in hindsight, StarCrossed, was interesting, to read about the fates of various characters and the events leading up to them.

Long story short, I'm tired of focusing on Lucky Star all the time, and I would like to focus just as much of my attention on Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which had also grown onto me thanks to the project that would become known as Cibus Esculentus Madoka Magica. I hosted the only currently existing fanfic pertaining to that onto Fanfiction.net, after re-posting everything I ever got back of I Was Kagami Hiiragi, specifically to get the feeling I described in the above-copied paragraph, but it didn't work. Not my writing or my ideas; all I did was give someone else a basic premise to work with, she wrote the actual story, and even though hosting it did benefit me (such as by getting in touch with someone who liked it), I got no real fulfillment by doing so because, unlike Starbound, the writing style is not that which belongs to the same person who wrote the author's notes, writes to this blog, or would be communicating with anyone who'd PM me after reading it.

As for other people's stories, while a handful of what I found did stand out, even if only enough to read not even the first whole chapter, the vast majority of them just didn't appeal to me, unlike what I had read of Lucky Star. Not necessarily boring in and of themselves, and I know others would be glad to have me read their work nonetheless, but the inclination just wasn't there. I could attempt to read some of it, but there is no fulfillment to derive from it, no feeling like I and this or that other person both wrote something unique.

Honestly, I wonder if I should just take that fic down at this point, so that no one feels like they're reading "my" stuff when they're really just reading stuff by some anonymous person who doesn't even want anymore to do with the project itself. It would save me the trouble of modifying the title whenever I do host my own version. (If not, though, I might apply "The True Story" as a subtitle to my own fic.)

-----

In case I need to drive this whole point home, I still remember being unable to rewrite the beginning of Bonds when I got around to that, because I was getting tired of Lucky Star itself. That's when I attempted an outline for an equivalent fic to Puella Magi Kazumi Magica, only to wind up focusing on Starbound shortly afterwards.

Skipping over the kind of help Marie offered afterward and exactly how well that panned out, I attempted a Starbound spinoff fic about Minami after coming home from Virginia, something that I was hoping to fill my time before Christmas in with, and I could barely do anything, exactly because I was tired again of having all my focus on Lucky Star. Come Christmas, I was glad to receive certain volumes of Suzune and Tart Magica, but they only made me crave that much more for ideas for the new Cibus fic and everything to spin off from it when I actually read them several days later.

So far, I do have an outline of stuff to happen in the new version, but no one to bring it up with. Jake hates Madoka Magica, Chelle is still on hiatus (though I am glad she's finally gotten down to something else I commissioned her for, even if its among other things that I had nothing to do with), Noxmoony has been having a hard time talking to me due to everything going on in her life, and kymyit has yet to watch the anime in order to understand how everything in the existing fic parallels it.

I could attempt to get started with it, but I want the first half to really set itself apart from the existing fic.

But then again, Wraith Arc started coming out in Japan only three months ago, and it could be another two years before it finally gets licensed here. It's bound to have actual explanations as to how Wraithes form and operate as opposed to Witches, which in turn would serve as a basis for how Esurientes do so.

Right now, though, it helps that kymyit is working on a pic of all the main five as Cibi. When she's done with that, I might use it to ask people for help. In the meantime, though, these pics I'm commissioning her and Nox for are all I have for holdover material, and I don't know how long it's gonna be before Chelle is open to discussion again.
