Marie told us before we left home that Brian had missed the train to Manhattan and wouldn't be able to come. She couldn't even reach him by phone, and thus ended up riding alone. At first, Mom and I thought his boss asked him to cancel his trip to New Jersey if he's to take another few days off to see Grandma Barbara here next week, but then he called Mom on the phone and specified some kind of time mismanagement on his own part. (Marie would tell us later that he had forgotten to set his alarm to wake him up, since it's only set to do so on weekdays.)

Disappointing as that was, this also means that I'll be able to keep that Mother 3 guide for another week before sending Brian back to Boston with it. Was also hoping I'd receive my Mother 1 guide sometime before yesterday to show that to him simultaneously, and to also show him this scene compilation of Misao Kusakabe before having him read a sample of Lucky Powers: Misao's arc.* (So far, I'm already a few pages past the time-skip in that M3 guide, and I should expect the M1 guide either today or tomorrow after having tracked it.)

(*To compare to Earthbound 199X (also sampled), to compare the different tones. The LP series contains events that would likely fit nicely in the Earthbound trilogy, but EB9X reads much more straightforwardly while novelizing the events of Earthbound and containing its own humorous lines to boot. Could just as easily show him a sample of Johto: The Funne Version (by Jake), but he hasn't been into Pokemon since the summer of '99.)

Asked Brian during my time on the phone with him, what he wanted as far as a rough player's guide for Day of the Beehive goes, and he primarily specified b-shots. Will be sure to look into that, but to start with, I would rather not just take stuff from Google Images that belong to other people, and I would also like stuff taken both in the locations to be visited and during the time of year that Starbound will take place (i.e. November throughout the following winter). It does help that we're only half a decade out of the '00s, due to how things like places and technology tend to evolve. (Lucky Star takes place between the 6th and 7th generations of video games, mobile devices weren't as prominent back then, Borders had gone out of business only late in 2011, and Jake once did tell me about an old school of his having been been converted into a funeral home.)

In general, how should I even figure out what to have anyone take pictures of, should I commission somewhere for my own images to use, when most of what I have on mind right now is the different countries or states that everyone will visit throughout the fic? For one thing, these bluffs where someone is shown hiking don't actually exist, and the closest thing the game has to a casino is that broken slot machine (not even inside a building). I know some things are advertisements of stuff in the actual game (such as the self-serve business in Happy Happy Village), but other than that, I think I might need Brian to look through the whole guide to see what he makes of everything.

Ate out at this high-class buffet at this place called Molly Pitcher Inn. Without Brian, there was an exact twelve of us (me, Mom, Dad, Marie, Cousin Steven, his girlfriend Jordan, Aunt Allison, Uncle Blas, Grandma Ella, Grandpa Bob, Uncle Robby, and of course, the birthday boy, Cousin Adam Bennett) to fit around one of many circular tables there. Loaded up with both meal-food and sweets alike, just like at the Golden Corral, and made a point of getting some tea to counteract all the sugar I ended up consuming.

Shortly before we left, we went out on a large deck, where some of us got a view of the Navesink River. I noticed two boys way down below throwing pathstones into the water surrounding a nearby boardwalk.

Went to Robby and Adam's house afterwards, and I took a nice chance to rest up in Adam's room before we left to bring Marie to an airport to Texas. Despite all the chocolate I had eaten at the restaurant, I managed to feel wide awake during the ride from there home, thanks to that opportunity.

Having read it, even though it is a lot more orderly than that for Earthbound, that Mother 3 guide actually is pretty unique in its own right, with advertisements for things like Wan Sum Dung's dung business and the Happy Boxes, and the beginning of a story of a court jester who is never mentioned in-game but is said to be responsible for the "passwords" to certain sections of Osohe Castle.
