Oct. 12th, 2016 05:32 amReceived The Very Soil just yesterday. Read a few chapters throughout the afternoon while doing some yardwork until Mom came home.
Mom brought me to South Country Library in Bellport some time after coming home, and I got my hands on a couple of HTML books in preparation for my class. We also visited this small supermarket just next door that I hadn't even been aware of, and I got myself a QuickDraw ticket. Also had a small walk around town before going home.
(Broke even with my lotto ticket when we got home. Rolled an 8 then, and will not be playing anymore for this week.)

Managed to stay up til 9:10 reading the whole rest of part 1 of TVS (half the entire book, dealing only with the main Madoka anime), and just read the first interlude right now. I always knew that that show drew inspiration from Faust, Christianity, Buddhism, and the intention to deconstruct the Magical Girl genre, but actually reading about it in even more depth than the Analysis page on TV Tropes goes to show how unsophisticated I myself am in comparison with stuff. No surprise there, since one of my main sources of inspiration for the Cibus project is a personal fetish of mine, and I even went as far once as to compare the whole thing (in my notebook) to Final Destination, this being something of an excuse to watch girls get eaten up one by one (like how those films are about watching all their protagonists get killed in general as their stories progress; never actually watched them, but I did read about them on Wikipedia). The reason I chose Puella Magi Madoka Magica in particular, though, had to do with this fic called Magica Madoka Venificus Puella; namely, the fact that Magical Girls in the alternate universe that Madoka creates there wear the same outfits as in canon, but with less color (some, but not as much. Also, I only read a few chapters of that fic, before noticing that its author regrets the way it panned out and wants little to do with it, and is supposedly in the middle of rebooting it as something else just like I am with my own story).
For the record, I had explored a few themes in the outline for Starbound, such as friendship and morality, but this cut from an entry last year should explain how well I actually planned out the existing chapters of that fic, which still doesn't include all the symbolism like what Madoka Magica (or the Earthbound trilogy) relied on, only the logistics, references, and various parallels to Earthbound necessary for actual in-story events to play out:
