Dec. 25th, 2016 05:09 amMonths ago, I had originally planned on eventually sending Chelle most of my Puella Magi manga in exchange for the Starbound pic's completion, due to PayPal's support for Autism Speaks at the time. She has been the reason, by reblogging stuff on Tumblr about what that organization does, why I actively boycott anything that supports AS.
At some point, PayPal stopped supporting AS, and I figured it might be even better if I eventually send it all for Christmas instead. (To offer to barter them would've left her able to turn them down, and to just send everything immediately, I would assume, might have given her reason to believe that this has mainly to do with my own stuff.) This, in turn, became the reason why I bought Homura's Revenge and The Different Story at Barnes & Noble, and The Very Soil online later on.
Later, I figured that maybe I ought to give Jake, my other closest friend online, something as well, and decided upon my PC-FX just hours later. I asked Mom if we have any packaging for it, and she suggested I ask if people in Brazil even use the same type of outlet as here. I remembered him writing somewhere that the first game he ever played was a Japan-only SFC game, and started off by asking him if he owned an actual Super Famicom at the time. He told me he actually played it on a local Super NES, without even any kind of adapter (unlike Brian's old friend James w/ the Super 6-in-1) or modding it. Jake told me that adapters are everywhere, and I wound up having to tell him that I planned to send him something. Kept what it was a secret when he asked, but did tell him that I did get an idea four years ago on having Mom send him those Nintendo Power magazines I bought months earlier during some errands she was about to run. (That didn't go through because they would've cost too much to send out, she was even glad to have made that decision when I told her that Jake and his folks were away from home at the time, and to try again later would've made things rather anticlimactic when commemoration of the series' end was supposed to end on Christmas Day w/ me receiving volume 1.)
He told me that they would have taken forever to reach him anyway, and that's when I decided to spend a few last days with the PC-FX and play the hard mode in Chip-chan Kick before sending that out. Beat the game on October 7 at 8:18 PM, with only 2 lives (one gained from defeating Warbit himself) 2 continues, and a high score of 563,600. Sent it a week later, and he received it on November 3, just a few days after he had finished this one-post-per-day event on his blog for the month of October and its 10th anniversary, which had gone awry when certain present-day things happened that included his house being robbed. (Wasn't able to send it any earlier because the day I did so was when Mom had more free time than any day beforehand.)
Having just mentioned that burglary that took place, that resulted in his parents urging him to find a new home. As a result, it was not practical for him to hook the system up when he received it, and it's also a good thing I brought things up with him and sent it as early as I did, lest it arrive there when he's not there anymore to receive it.
Back to Chelle.
Originally, I had planned on saving all my Madoka manga for our trip to Virginia just several weeks ago. However, the clerk at the post office did tell me that things tend to take longer to reach their destinations during the holiday season due to increased parcel volume, and Mom told me as we left that she once ordered something at the last minute for two-day shipping, and it took several whole weeks after Christmas to actually arrive.
To begin with, while I did start reading The Very Soil the day that got here, I was already planning to save Puella Magi Homura Tamura for the ride to Mill Pond. Only read one actual chapter on the ride there before putting it down to just relax, came home with Brian, who I would chat with, and it was after he and Grandma Ella both left that I continued reading it before reading what I actually planned on sending Chelle. (Homura Tamura was too wide for the box I had, and I didn't send Tart Magica either because I planned only on sending her whatever I had all volumes for, lest she be left hanging or decide mid-series that she doesn't like something.)
Read through all five other installments, shipped them out (along with The Very Soil), and she would receive them on November 17.
So far, she has only posted her thoughts on Homura's Revenge, but they sound very similar to how I feel about the current Cibus fic. Like, she complains about how Mami's animosity towards Homura still holds true even though her original reasons aren't there anymore (along with how poorly her demise was executed), Sayaka nonsensically plotting revenge on Homura for something she caused only by accident, and then some pure awesomeness focusing mainly on Madoka and Homura's relationship, with Kyoko also getting her own chance to shine.
(Actual rant here.)
In the Cibus fic, we have Homura still not seeking help despite the original reason for that being moot (canon Mami always knew that all Magical Girls are destined to die, but lost her shit in one timeline upon learning the hard way how they alternately become Witches, something that doesn't happen in the Wraith timeline or the fic), Kyoko making a big deal about territory (originally, that had everything to do with Soul Gems, Grief Seeds, and self-preservation), and then my favorite part in the whole fic (with only the epilogue coming in second), involving Oriko and the Pleiades Saints.
( Spoilers; nothing about weight-gain, though. )
Still looking forward in any case to seeing what Chelle has to write about the other installments.

Went with Mom to pick up Brian and Marie at Port Jefferson yesterday. Brian had already read chapter 1 of the Cibus fic on the train, and we had some rich discussion about that both at home and when we and Marie went out shopping at several places.
I told him when he complained that that wasn't my writing that that's exactly one of the reasons I still wish to do it over, and while I may have gotten ahead of myself by bringing up that whole issue of Homura not seeking help and the original reasons why, he compared it to Watership Down, where the main characters have a nice little comfort zone cut out for them but eventually find out the troubling reason why.
So far, he is planning to read another chapter today, and hopefully the whole thing during his time here until Wednesday. However, things back at his apartment are just kinda stressful right now, and he'd rather I not come with him and Marie when they leave.
Good thing I also have Parasitic Trio on mind for when they leave. Right now, this is just a good opportunity to get any discussion in on this while Chelle is still indisposed, even though she might be even better to eventually talk to when she hopefully has already read The Different Story and Oriko Magica.
But anyway, Merry Christmas, everyone! Got something to email to a bunch of people later today; just need Brian to pull up one YouTube video (not on either of my computers), and to several others' email addresses first.
