Jan. 2nd, 2019 06:31 amTwo days ago, I treated Brian to Starbucks with a gift card I had gotten for Christmas, and he had to stop at a nearby liquor store afterwards.
During our time out, we had some talk about Starbound, and Brian almost failed to wrap his head around the idea of the party visiting multiple countries between each mana spot. I argued that Twoson itself isn't where Paula first joins Ness, but he replied that Ness didn't have to cross an entire country just to find her. I then presented the facts that Jeff had to trek all the way from Winters in order to meet the two of them in Threed, and that they do some actual globetrotting after wrapping things up in Fourside (which in turn is the basis for the global setting that will define Starbound instead of something set entirely within Japan the way EB's first half and its entire prequel is set within a fictional equivalent to America).
Along the way, I mentioned that that is why I began reading The Adventures of Tintin, and that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure also covers the kind of plot I'm looking for. After we came home, I offered to let him take the three Tintin books I've already read with him back to Boston, but he declined, still having yet to begin reading Puella Magi Oriko Magica: Sadness Prayer.
This topic would continue yesterday morning, when Brian and I went out to eat breakfast at two different places that both turned out to be closed for New Year's, and he and I agreed to begin watching JBA next time he comes to visit.

Brian left later in the day yesterday.

Didn't play Phantasy Star at all yesterday. Too busy scouring my blog for Chelle's old username to change, and now, I've lost momentum. She did say that she's not in any actual hurry, but I'm not usually that committed to seeing a given game through when I start playing one. (There are a few things I'd be glad to do differently in a new playthrough anyway, such as tackling Scion Cave when it's more in the way on my way to Drasgow and not buying an Iron Shield for Alis right before Odin, who wields one to begin with, is to obtain the much more powerful Mirror Sheild.)
So far, I'm already at November 2009, having started yesterday midday at September '08. Once I finish up, though, I will be putting WaniKani back on vacation mode in order to focus on Starbound, and will come back to it between each chapter from then onward.
From there on, considering how many breaks I needed to take while writing the previous chapter, the 20th of most months (that being the midpoint between my birthday on March 16 and Christmas Day in December) will be the day around which I treat myself to one of my planned games.
Before I actually begin the next chapter, one thing I'd like to do first, is incorporate Nyamo into the party's entry into Magicant; as the Lucky Star franchise mascot, I believe in hindsight that he should've been one of the first things they've seen, something Brian suggested (though not specifically in Magicant) when we watched a few random episodes one year before watching the whole series. In a way, it's a good thing I still have yet to post it to deviantArt or present it to Mom, and even better now that Chelle is back to critique it once I take care of that.
Once that's done, I might treat myself to a day or two (as opposed to over a whole week) of Food Fantasy, something that probably won't have any defined end to work towards, just a matter of seeing how far I'd happen to get. (It was already a mistake to try to "catch up" in Candy Crush Saga before.) I might then reserve that for after I finish my share of writing and plan the next bit out for each day onward, putting it aside either for other games or when I finish each chapter.
With Phantasy Star being this past month's game, next month's will still be Super Paper Mario, after Mom already shelled out a few bucks for that one game that I specified priority for and while I still have the Wii hooked up. Will probably take another shot with Phantasy Star in February; was hoping to add Sega Genesis Classics to my birthday list in order to continue the series while I still have momentum with it. (I did also consider playing Mega Man 9 and 10 at some point, and then suggesting 11, but that's not seeming so likely at this point the way I've planned things out and given what kinds of games I'd like to play primarily.)
