Feb. 10th, 2019 05:33 amYesterday morning, I got an email from Steam about some Lunar New Year tokens that I wasn't even aware of, for an ongoing promotion that expires tomorrow. I logged onto the site to see what the deal with that all was, and they're actually mostly for things like emoticons and profile backgrounds.
I don't normally think about cheap gimmicks like those, but in lieu of anything better, I do think they'd be nice to have while I still have currency to pay for them that would go to waste otherwise. Getting more tokens requires investing in actual games, and I figured this would be a better time than any to use my gift card.
Turns out that there are two other promotions going on: One for $5 off for one's first purchase of $30 or more, and the other for discounts on most games available.
I peeled the sticker off from the back (assuming that's what the instructions meant by "scratch", since lottery scratchoff cards don't have stickers), could barely read the code, and had to report that. I ran things past Mom, which included that, and she had me retrieve the little bits from my wastebasket in order to scratch off properly, and she helped me input the code correctly, allowing me to cancel my issue.
After having had so much time to think things over, I went on to buy Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, but found myself unable to install it.
As it turns out, whereas certain other games I looked at simply specify Windows 7 for minimum system requirements, this one specifies Windows 7 SP1. I checked my computer properties, and they specify Windows 7 Ultimate, so maybe the problem lies there, if that version predates SP1.
(Barring re-releases on future systems, I would probably need either a newer version of Windows or a Playstation 4 in order to play that particular game. I have already demoted it to share priority with Persona 4, which I'm hoping eventually to play the Vita version of if the Playstation Vita itself has enough other games not re-released since to warrant buying.)
Managed to get a refund for a total of $38.01 (including PayPal and tax), which is currently pending and said to be available within 24 hours, to my Steam Wallet.
Currently, I still have Recettear, Fortune Summoners, and also The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky left to redirect that money towards. I have already asked for recommendations on the ROMhacking forum, but nothing has come of that so far. The promotions all end tomorrow at 1 PM, so today, I am going to have a break from Earthbound Zero, and research other JRPGs to invest in.
(So far, though, I don't actually expect to play anything between completing EB0 and getting whatever for my birthday. That game is already taking quite long enough for me to complete, other games in general are supposed to keep me motivated to continue with Starbound whenever I actually can, and while I do hope Chelle will be more available to discuss that with by the time I finish my walkthrough, I do have other things to take care of as well in case she still isn't.)
