Apr. 11th, 2020 05:56 amYesterday, I asked Brian while he was talking to Mom if he goes to any thrift stores in Boston, and if he ever noticed player's guides in any of them.
The reason I asked is because, while I do see games and consoles at Savers often enough, I don't think I ever noticed guides there, and I've been wondering if maybe I just never looked hard enough for them. I do recall wondering why I never looked for consoles in electronics, and sure enough, I have since seen at least two Sega Geneses and a Wii balance board there, and Mom was also the one to notice first where the store keeps any manga it ever receives (in a particular spot amongst similar-looking regular books, not even always all together). I would start looking around and even ask someone there if they do in fact carry them, but it's gonna be a while before the chain even reopens.
Here's the deal: From what I gather recently, the Playstation 5 is only going to be backwards-compatible with PS4 games, and even then, while over 4,000 of those will become playable on it over time, only 100 will be chosen for that for its launch in October. For that reason, unless those include either The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki (assuming that even gets localized) or Trails of Cold Steel (w/ all their sequels as gift requests for later), I'm thinking it would be more practical to get the system for my following birthday rather than Christmas in-between, and that's where guides come in, simply as sort of a "filler-gift", if you will.
Brian failed to understand why I'd have to wait until certain games show up at Savers, but all together, I've got so damn many games planned for these next few years that it only would be practical to prioritize them. I'm already booked for most of this year, will want to play whichever games I get guides for between Christmas and my next birthday, will obviously get at least one game with the PS5 on my birthday, and even outside of those, there are still a few games that either I already have from before, only exist digitally, or are still too new to show up at Savers anytime soon, with only more still that the future holds (also why a PS4 itself would not be economical in the long run).
In any case, he did ask me to list what games and guides I intend to invest in in general, and I managed to write them all down (not counting anything digital) on an index card.
(Addendum: Just showed this to Mom, and she says there might be some guides in a reference section that I had never known about. Should check that out when the store reopens.)

Yesterday was Dad's 68th birthday, and we all had a powdered pound cake together to celebrate.
