Mar. 6th, 2021 07:05 amBeen seeing demos on YouTube lately for all kinds of Sonic fangames.
Currently watching the second for one called Sonic Daybreak, and it's a good thing I barely got to see much of its first one before forgetting about it altogether beforehand. I did not think of the original song used for its first zone, the one still used for its second zone is not any better, and it didn't even have anything further than that. Such an impression that would've left on me would have left me to miss out on the songs used for Starlight Park and Midnight Forest. (Admittedly though, I wasn't crazy either about the Wireframe Warehouse theme used in Sonic Hedgespin's original demo, which I had seen some time before checking out its holiday demo that has a much better equivalent song.)
Obviously, such music as these games in general present would not fit well into an RPG, and I do kinda appreciate such fast-paced action itself as well. Starbound is not something I'd want adapted into an action game, because Tsukasa and Davì in particular would not be capable of as much as any of the psychic girls, Robin, or even Mondo. A (straightforward) Puella Magi fangame might be compatible enough with similar music to what I've heard from Sonic Uprising, which is similarly dark to the likes of Mega Man Zero and Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, but not with anything more lighthearted. I do wish I could use my old ensemble for Monster Collection Chronicles, but not only was that story's planned plot just too broken to work, but it doesn't seem to make sense in hindsight for Mondo and Rokuna from Japan to team up with a bunch of kids from America when they already have plenty of allies in Rokumon Sekai, plus there would need to be some way to account for said allied monsters and the concept of summoning.
After considering a game that would focus mainly on Sonic's female characters, I then got an idea to one day adapt Makeruna! Makendou Z into an action game, something the original game might as well have been, still complete with the actual plot (and including the OVA's events in its prologue).
Not sure if I'm going to revive my original plans for a sequel, though, since "Z" sort of implies intentions as the series' endgame.
