Mar. 8th, 2023 05:44 amSpent most of yesterday reading tips on how to conduct interviews for part-time work.
My interview seemed to go smoothly enough, but I was told that it will be a week or so before I'd hear back whether I am selected to work there.
On our way home, we decided to stop at Sunshine Square, where Mom could pick up some suets and other things at Stop & Shop while I eat dinner at Cafe Gia before meeting her in Savers.
After arriving home, just when we were tucked into watching the next episode of Higurashi, I asked Mom if she had anything for a stomachache.
Before she could specify anything, I got a call from the Applebee's location in Shirley. Someone offered an interview for Friday at 2 for a host position, and I asked Mom if that would be convenient for her, seeing how she usually arrives home at 1:30. She said it's fine, but asked me if there are any other positions available, concerned that that might not be a good fit for me (not sure what the big deal is; escorting people to their tables sounds pretty simple to me, and I did draw the line at supervisor and management while applying), but then I got a call from the Lindenhurst location, and selected "Hang up and accept", only for Mom to deem that too far away even for her.
Mom asked me to call Allison back about what happened, but doing so multiple times, even by entering the number into the keypad, only yielded silence that, after trying herself, she chalked up to a type of screening that even her own workplace has for some numbers.
Back to my stomach pain, we decided at that point just to postpone our episode to this afternoon, and she brought me down to the house for some medicine she had gotten Dad for what might've been the same thing the other day. Only had to take the one dose to feel all better within minutes.
Was able afterwards to look up and reach Allison back through the restaurant's main phone number, and verify that the appointed time still stands.
(In the opposite direction from Riverhead, Mom and I might also be able to stop at the bank on our way back.)
(I also gather May 17 to be Applebee's national hiring day, offering free entrees to anyone who applies that day, conceived to attract applicants following the pandemic. Will be sure to re-apply to most locations then, minus any locations further away from home then where I'll be working then if I am already employed somewhere.)
