Mom drove me to Kinokuniya yesterday for a day-early birthday gift, since today had already been forecast to rain.

There were not one but two vehicle fires on our way to the city.

The first of those was a van that our GPS specified as "a stalled vehicle on the right" just before we could finally pass it. Mom urged me to take a picture, but I couldn't access her camera feature before it was too far behind us.

The second was actually stated in advance on an electric sign. We couldn't see any smoke that time, so we assumed at first that it had already been put out. Turned out to be a still intact 18-wheeler, so presumably, it was only its contents that had ignited before getting extinguished by the time we reached it.

To tie in with visiting a Japanese bookstore, we had decided to have sushi out for lunch. We originally planned on this place called Sushi & Co., and I had decided in the morning what I'd like to get. However, just across the street from the garage we drove our car to, I spotted a different place called Wasabi, which wound up saving us a trip further down from Kinokuniya, and we decided to eat there instead.

Mom got some kind of salad, and I got a box set of nigiri sushi and some boba tea in a can, along with a seaweed onigiri that we decided to share. Mom got a fork, but showed me the correct way to hold chopsticks even though I did at least manage to pick a piece of sushi up with them.

We made our way afterwards to Kinokuniya, and she went further ahead to another store called Daiso.

Not surprisingly, they do not sell DVDs anymore, although there is plenty of manga in both English and Japanese. I had actually planned to find myself a figure to put inside my upstairs computer tower (it has a glass side through which to display things), narrowing things down from the start to brunette girls.

After looking around and then getting a slice of green tea cake (meh) and some coffee, I wound up buying a model kit of someone named Koyomi Takanashi from Sousai Shojo Teien, which isn't an actual show, just a toyline. (I also found one other character in some sort of low-cut angel outfit, whose hair was depicted brown on the box art, but it was shown to be orange on the actual figure.)

Mom never got anything before meeting me back outside the store.

(Gonna wait until Brian and/or Drew come over to show me how to take that hard drive apart to put something in, before I assemble Koyomi to my liking. In the meantime, I should probably take a few box pics now to share with everyone on Uguu Blue.)
