Dec. 29th, 2025 05:24 amWhat a male character like [Ben Arnold] would eventually have to do with four women in Earthbound, I will admit, I actually do wonder often enough if it’s more of a male thing than a moral thing. For one thing, I did experience similar dissonance before by someone good but rugged like Sgt. Clay from Fallen City Brawl, but not by such equivalent female characters as Yuka and Tamao from Advanced Variable Geo 2, but that obviously wouldn’t be the case with four average grown men Saga herself associates with, one of whom is not even very attractive.
To name some counterexamples, my first would be this girl with the phone, and no, that wasn’t a cartoony thing either, given 1) one decent male character in that same series, and 2) girls from other western cartoons I found attractive enough in passing… or retrieved personally.

To start with, the line numbered 2 is accompanied by half of a poster of 6teen that was presented in a TV Tropes discussion, and a second each from Caillou, The Magic School Bus, and Charlotte's Web (the last two were swapped from my planned order).
(There was also this poster I saw recently at Barnes & Noble, featuring four kids, two male and female each, and one of the girls had her hair in a brown ponytail and was blowing bubblegum, giving off this "chick with attitude" vibe. It didn't stand out much at the time to bother taking a picture of, but I would've liked in hindsight to include that as well, if only I could remember what it said or otherwise re-find it on Google Images.)
Accompanying the line "or retrieved personally" would have been a focused shot of some lady specifically booty-dancing from the early Family Guy number Hic-A-Doo-La. Thought it would make for a nice meta-joke coming off from the butt-related stuff from our stay at Aunt Marie's, along with Mom recently commenting that she never saw anyone in a green bikini when I let her use my phone to type something (here is when I set my current keyboard background up, although she probably wasn't typing anything that time).
Until yesterday, I had mistaken that particular woman for someone else, based only on said color of her swimsuit. Getting around to implementing that step gave me a closer look at all three women and the actual details of their swimsuits, and one particular frame depicts what could only be the tip of that one's hair, which turns out to be blonde (ho-hum...).
So now, I've scrapped that bit, which is why I'm mentioning it here.

Mom and I have watched a total of five episodes yesterday of Burst Angel, two in direct succession last night.

Sold those wi-fi adapters on eBay last night.
