And there goes Pokemon Ruby!!!!!
Jan. 25th, 2009 02:04 pmIt has only been several hours (at most) since I've taken on the Battle Tower in Pokemon Ruby. Unfortunately, I couldn't even last one battle in there, because all three Pokemon I brought there were Level 40 or under. I assumed that each Tower level would be increments of 10, as had been the case in Crystal and Pearl, but it turns out that you can only choose 50 or 100. Well, at least I had gotten farther in this game that I had gotten in Sapphire, where my big mistake was with the post-Elite Four contests.
If anything defies belief, it's that only three of my Pokemon had learned a regular TM, none of which were based on a double-5.
But, without further ado...
Game: Ruby
Player: May
Zigzagoon: Captured on Route 101. Was chosen to learn HM Cut.
Seedot: Captured on Route 102. Was chosen to learn HM Rock Smash. Evolved into Nuzleaf on Route 114 (on the rocky section before Meteor Falls), and was taught HM Cut after doing so.
Shroomish: Captured in Petalburg Woods. Was chosen to come to the Battle Tower after I beat the Elite Four, and was subsequently taught TM36 (Sludge Bomb). Evolved into Breloom while I paid my final visit to the Trick House, so that it could gain some type advantages.
Nincada: Captured on Route 116. Was chosen to learn HM Flash.
Skitty: Captured on Route 116. I decided to evolve it while battling on Route 120, and backtracked to Meteor Falls to get the Moon Stone. However, I let it level up one more time, so that it could learn Assist, before I actually evolved her. (Since Delcatty can't learn any new moves after evolving from Skitty, I decided to teach this one HM Strength to compensate.)
Whismur: Captured in Rusturf Tunnel. Gave birth to another Whismur, which hatched in Fortree City. Evolved into Loudred on Route 123.
Makuhita: Captured in Granite Cave. Evolved into Hariyama in Mt. Pyre. Was chosen to learn TM28 (Dig) when I entered the secret chamber on Route 134.
Marill: Captured on Route 117. Was chosen to learn HMs Surf and Strength. Evolved into Azumarill on Route 113. Naturally, after having learned Surf, this one leveled up quite a bit, so I selected it to participate in the Elite Four battles.
This one also gave birth to a male Marill, which hatched on Route 110's Cycling Road. That one was chosen to learn HM Dive, and evolved into Azumarill while I battled in Mossdeep City Gym. (Like mother, like son.) At first, though, I was expecting the egg to hatch an Azurill, but it turns out that the mother Marill or Azumarill needs to hold a Sea Incense in order to give birth to one. It's justified, though, because I still had yet to explore Mt. Pyre, which is where the Sea Incense is found.
Cacnea: Captured in the desert on Route 111. Would have been taught HM Strength if it ever evolved into Cacturne, but in fact, it never even fought a single battle.
Swablu: Captured on Route 115. Was eventually chosen to learn HM Fly when I took on Registeel's tomb.
Wailmer: Captured on Route 121. For the sake of evolution, I automatically chose it to participate in every single battle in Sootopolis City Gym, and every battle after that, until it reached level 39. I then gave it two Rare Candies after I found one on Route 133 (the first one was found on Route 119, accessible via HM Waterfall), so that it could learn Water Spout and evolve into Wailord. (The fact that this had also been the case in Sapphire is no coincidence, because you need a Wailord in order to unlock the Sealed Chambers.
Shiny Oddish: Captured on Route 119, though not on the first trip. I did have a regular Oddish in my collection already, but this one's body was a light shade of green, and its leaves were a greenish yellow color. This Pokemon never fought any battles, but was chosen to participate in Smart Contests. Unfortunately, it was never able to win the Master Rank.
Shuppet: Captured on Mt. Pyre Summit. The player's guide says specifically that Shuppet is not obtainable directly in Ruby. Was this some kind of glitch? Well, that is indeed the only wild Shuppet I ever ran into all game long, so I am glad to have one in my collection.
Relicanth: Captured underwater on Route 124. Was chosen to learn HM Waterfall. Also chosen to participate in the Battle Tower, and was thus taught TM13 (Ice Beam).
Sharpedo: Captured in Pacifidlog Town. This is the only Pokemon I captured in an evolved form. Participated in the Elite Four battles, but was hardly needed at all to fight. Was chosen to participate in the Battle Tower, and thus taught HM Surf after I beat the Elite Four.
Now all that's left before Platinum is the true playthrough of Pokemon Emerald. That's right, we're not aborting the game this time. I had caught my mistake when I played it the first time, and it's not gonna happen again.
But for now, time for a break from Pokemon.
Update on 6/25/10:
Hitmonlee: Traded from FireRed. Was taught TM 32 (Double Team).
Final record in Battle Tower: 16
