Just one entry today. This time, it's not getting an lj-cut, because I'm also gonna write some shit about a certain anime that Jake just fucking hates.

September 27, 1998 (Sunday)

This morning, we went somewhere (can’t remember where). Before we came back, I asked Mom if we were gonna rent Banjo-Kazooie, but she’s like “They wanna play Goldeneye.”

When we got back, Uncle Marvin, Uncle Robby, Grandma Ella, Aunt Allison, and cousin’s Dennis and Steven, and Cousin Adam were at the house. Dad and Uncle Marvin were in the backyard having beers. Brian and Dennis were playing Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. They were at Skyhook Battle, and one of the Turrets was on fire, and Dennis is like “Hey, let’s go roast marshmallows.” Brian’s like “We’re fightin’ this thing the size of Mars, and you’re making wisecracks about roasting marshmallows…well maybe not the size of Mars, but still…”

I then wandered outside while they were playing, and I was thinking about a snowboarding slope where all the kids in my snowboarding trip were racing, and the music to Luigi Raceway on Mario Kart 64 was playing. When I came back inside, Brian, Dennis, and Steven were playing Diddy Kong Racing. Steven’s like “This level’s stupid” during each level. Soon, me and the other kids ate lunch in the screenhouse in the backyard. When we got back in, I started playing Diddy Kong Racing. I tried to get a ghost on the first level a bunch of times, but then gave up and played normal. Dennis was playing on the computer, and Brian showed him that MAD Magazine he got from the library. He showed him something with a bunch of TV shows and information about the episodes. One of them was Jerry Springer, and Dennis told him “Like, they have these two people, and they like throw chairs, and there are like security guards, and everyone is cursing and…”

Later, Mom wanted me to let Steven play with me, and I raced him a few times and won, but then I had to let him play anyway because he was gonna be leaving soon. After everyone left, I told Brian we both had the same amount of time, and then a few minutes later, I told him he had more time than me.

Later, Brian turned on Goldeneye airing on some TV channel. A few minutes after it started, he told Mom and Dad that it was on. Mom told him to turn it off. I asked Mom if I could play Nintendo, and Mom said to Brian, “Okay, I made him let Steven play.” I started playing Diddy Kong Racing, and then turned it off after I beat the Stegosaurus. I went into Mom’s room to see what time it was, and it was 9:30.

Now, for some shit about...

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Well, I gotta say, I sure enjoyed the hell out of this series when I watched it a year ago. And, while I did enjoy the series in general, and while I do have a fetish for girls' embarrassment, I am not too fond of the way Haruhi tends to treat Mikuru. I mean, yeah, she's also an asshole towards Kyon, but the last episode of the first season is where the shit really went overboard: The whole damn episode is dedicated to humiliating Mikuru (by having her pose in various costumes to host as Easter eggs for a DVD). For that purpose, Haruhi sends Kyon out to get a heater, so that he's absent most of the time, and when he comes back, he'll be too tired to step in. Itsuki encourages every idea that Haruhi comes up with, because when she doesn't have her way, the world is endangered. Yuki just sits by and reads books, even as the whole thing is taking place in the same room as she's in.

(Honestly, I didn't know what kind of denouement to expect, but that one just pissed me off. To me, the only thing that can justify this is if someone writes a fic where the catch of Haruhi getting her way all the time is that either Kyon or Itsuki kills her, either if she found out about her "powers" or if Kyon found out about the whole thing or just did it to spare Mikuru further humiliation and the world further endangerment.)

Well, I still plan on watching the second season of Haruhi if it ever comes out in the States. I just hope that the last episode of that season isn't a repeat of the first season's last episode.

Now, about that "chibi" spinoff that I linked to yesterday... Well, I've only watched four episodes so far, but in one of them, Mikuru notices herself naked online, and tries to tell Kyon that she did something, but couldn't tell him what she did. She posed naked and trying to cover herself up? This sounds like something Haruhi forced her to do, and I'm glad at least this isn't canon to the main series. I'm at least glad this isn't anything like Hare + Guu, which is pretty much nothing but picking on someone, or else I would've stopped watching the main series very early on and not bothered watching this spinoff. I should mention that, early in the main series, Kyon found some pictures of Mikuru that Haruhi had him take of her, posted on the SOS Brigade website, and deleted the pics. In this case, of course, this didn't happen because Mikuru was too embarrassed to tell him about it.

I did once receive a pic of Mikuru, wearing a bikini, trying to cover herself up in embarrassment. I enjoy looking at the pic, but now that I write this stuff, the possibility might exist that she might've been forced to wear this. I mean, girls normally wear bikinis only if they feel comfortable in it, and this one canonically wore a one-piece when she and her friends went to a resort island. Except, that this isn't canon, and no one else is in the pic, let alone Haruhi. But, if Haruhi starts taking pictures of Mikuru naked during the second season, that might be where I draw the line.
