I received Donkey Kong Country yesterday.

To mark the game's arrival, I should note that that game was the first one I ever downloaded as a ROM. Don't confuse this with being the first one I ever played, though; that award goes to Judge Dredd. I first found out about ROMs and emulators in August 2001, when we were visiting Grandma Barbara and her family. I asked Cousin David if they still had their legitimate copy of the game, he told me they got rid of that one, and then he downloaded it for me.

The day we left for home, he gave us a white disk with the word "Roms" in bold, red letters on it. Of all the games on it, Brian's favorite at the beginning had been Chrono Trigger, and Marie's was Harvest Moon (which Brian also spent some time playing).

I should've said this last Thursday, but my gaming experiences sure have come a long way since 7th Grade! I owe it all to the Internet that I was able to see things like Penny Arcade, the Angry Video Game Nerd, and Wikipedia. I even own quite a myriad of consoles, including one that was only released in Japan. I wasn't aware back then of what wasn't being released in the States.
