Mar. 26th, 2010 06:45 amA lot has happened yesterday.
First thing's first, a dentist appointment I had to leave for 10 A.M. Not much to say about that. However, on the way there, Mom did ask me whether I wanted that tiramisu that Beheya, the wife of Dad's friend Hamid, baked for me, or I'd rather have something different. She said that if we get something different, we could still keep the tiramisu to eat later. I decided to go for a regular cake.
After that, Mom drove to Stop 'N' Shop so that she could pick up a prescription for an allergic reaction she had had all the previous night, and for me to exchange recyclings for money. On the way there, she told me she went to Borders, where she typically picked up DVDs as Christmas and birthday presents and that store now has far fewer anime than they used to have. According to her, most of what the did have was stuff I wouldn't have liked. She did mention Fruits Basket, but according to her, she showed me the manga in the past, and it didn't interest me much. (Actually, I don't really remember her showing me that. I did read, maybe, a chapter of it on my own, but I think I might actually enjoy that anime series.) I wasn't disappointed with her, and she did ask me if we could go to Barnes & Nobles one of these days and let me pick something out instead. I figured I might as well agree to that.
After taking care of things at Stop 'N' Shop, we then went over to Sam's Club to pick out a cake, as well as getting some regular groceries. She did tell me before that they had cakes surrounded by cupcakes, but when we had a look at those, it turned out that the cakes with those were smaller than regular cakes. I decided to get a chocolate cake lined with chocolate flakes down the side.

I did tell Mom about an online store called Robert's Anime Corner Store, which specializes in anime. The fact that that store was advertised in Newtype seems to suggest that it's reputable enough, though that's just an assumption.
In any case, here's the link:

Later on, Brian and Marie came home, along with Jacob and Grandpa Bob (the latter of whom Brian had been seeing for the previous few days). I greeted them, but shortly afterwards, Mom took Marie and Jacob to the thrift store. Before they left, I reminded Mom to buy birthday candles (which she told me earlier she was out of) and to check the other Borders store that we go to (which she said she would also go to).
(As it turns out, same thing was going on at the other Borders. No big deal.)

Usually, whenever I listen to or watch anything on YouTube, I wear a pair of headphones that usually remains on the computer desk. However, Brian temporarily borrowed the headphones for something yesterday, and Marie and Jacob happened to be on the futon when I decided to listen to something from Contra Force. Shortly into the song, Jacob asked me if I would be interested in learning how to write music like that, and I thought it was a nice suggestion. However, I did note that games for anything more advanced than the NES or other 8-bit consoles typically have much richer music quality due to hardware differences.
A lot of these songs are still synthetic, but there are plenty of games which rely heavily on stuff that at least sounds instrumental (if not full-out orchestrated). However, Jacob did tell me that even with music from games like Dark Cloud 2, it's still possible to emulate the sound of an actual instrument on a keyboard, although there are games for which people record music from an actual orchestra.

Not much went on from there that I remember, until we ate dinner. We didn't go to Bobbique because Grandpa can't eat meat. Instead, Mom went to get Turkish takeout, since it includes soup that he can have instead.
Not much to say about dinner itself, but we did have cake afterwards. When I was about to cut the cake, I raised the knife as if I was about to slice someone downwards with it, but brought it back down gently. This reminded Brian and Marie of such past incidents as:
-me keeping a steak knife by my bedside, which I claimed I would've used on my parents or my then one-on-one Mrs. Short if they pissed me off (not that I actually would do such a thing).
-me carrying a butcher knife, after I once caught Marie watching something on Nickelodeon while I was inside the house.
-me approaching Brian and James in the basement with the aforementioned steak knife. (Ask what led up to that if you're interested.)
-the screwdriver incident, which took place on September 8, 1998. (Brian did not remember this one at all, actually.)

Anyway, after I ate my slice of cake, I then opened my birthday presents, and got Pokemon SoulSilver. I did get the Player's guide, but it turns out that this one only covers the Johto half of the game. The one that will cover Kanto is due for release in April, and it's a good thing Grandma Ella gave me a gift card for Barnes & Nobles several weeks ago.
Originally, I was gonna start playing the game after Yellow Forest becomes available, but since still another week away, I think I'll start playing the game earlier on. Last night, however, I decided only to get a preview of the game, and this morning, I'm probably gonna focus on downloading the Eon Ticket onto Pokemon Sapphire (if even that), since I have to leave for a doctor's appointment at 8. I still do intend on buying a copy of HeartGold, which I'll actually play after I beat SoulSilver, Diamond, and then Pokemon Battle Revolution. Once I get HG, I'll be able to start a new game in that one, download Yellow Forest, and then come back after I beat PBR.

Even though Brian and Grandpa have slept their first night over, Marie and Jacob had to go back home.
