Half the plot of last night's episode of The Simpsons featured a new fad called "Ball Fighters", which I commented I was familiar with what they were ripping off from having read Chelle's blog before. However, one of Bart's friends did say "It makes Digimon seem like Pokemon", so at least that goes to show that simply mentioning actual names of franchises isn't illegal. (Not that I didn't know that before.)
One thing did almost drive me away from that episode. For the other half of the plot, Homer gets sentenced to community service for "instigating" a panic in a bank, by doing something that couldn't even remotely be mistaken for such. At first, I thought this was gonna be like another episode, The Parent Rap (seriously, fuck that one!), but for once, it actually lead to something positive!

The Simpsons can't rip off Bakugan (I assume that's what it refers to?), since they're not making a series revolving around anything similar, they're most likely just satirizing it (I haven't seen the episode, but I'm a bit familiar with the Simpsons and how they not take certain things serious).

Why does that drive you off, didn't you notice that's satire too? It falls in line with the Ball Fighters thing : overreacting about minor things.

About the second question, not sure how to answer that. Either way, though, the episode I compared it to was, in my opinion, not the least bit funny. The Parent Rap consisted almost exclusively of Homer and Marge being penalized for something that Bart did, and frankly, most episodes I've seen were much better than that. That is what I assumed last night's episode was gonna be like where Homer was involved.
