Had a civil service exam yesterday morning at Comsewogue High School. Consisted of 65 multiple choice questions that involved reading entries for slight differences, determining whether words were spelled correctly, proofreading several things, grammar usage, etc.

Just across from the entrance was the cafeteria, where Breakfast With Santa was being held. I decided to go check it out when I finished my test. First thing that caught my attention was a jar of red and green M&M's. The person seated near it said that for just $1, I could write on a slip of paper how much I guessed was inside the jar. I thought she said I could have some for a dollar, and had change in quarters and dimes, so I went for it.

Actually, there were all kinds of things lined up across the tables on the right side of the cafeteria, such as a Buzz Lightyear version of Operation. Moving on were kids doing arts and crafts, but that doesn't really interest me. And I decided not to take whatever food was being served there at that point.

Safety tip: Never dump fresh ashes in the woods.

What happened yesterday, was that Mom cleaned out the fireplace, and I took it upon myself to dump the ashes out behind where my car used to be. She found out, and Dad came over to it with me and pointed out that that is a fire hazard, what with the embers just beginning to smoke. Neither of them were particularly mad at me, though, and Mom told me that next time, I should wait until at least the next day to empty the ash bucket. She came with a bucket of water to douse them with, and I refilled it at the tap near the shed to douse the pile some more.

Good thing this wasn't anywhere near our house. If my parents weren't made aware of it, at least the only things that would've been damaged by the time we'd realize would be the surrounding plant life and the fence between our yard and the Bernackis'.

So anyway, Mom's been on jury duty for the entire past week. Quite by coincidence, just last night on an episode of The King of Queens, Carrie told a few other characters (don't remember whom, but one of them was her husband Doug) that she was on jury duty. Of course, it was a lie, but still, the fact that it was mentioned...

(I don't go out of my way to watch The King of Queens. Or for that matter, anything on TV ever since I stopped watching All My Children in 2006. I just happened to be sitting down in the living room, and Mom just turned the TV on.)
