Received: Spice and Wolf, disk 1. (Yeah, it's technically disk 1 of season 1, but it's not like Princess Tutu starts over with the disk numbers after its first season.)

Mom brought me to a few places after she got home from work. First, the post office Bellport. I drove the way there, but other than that, nothing too special. Then, to the thrift store again, and this time, there was room in the shed for new stuff.

We were also going to visit Dad at the house he was working at, but he called Mom beforehand and told her that he had to leave. Were also planning on going for a walk around town, but decided instead to just go to Stop 'N' Shop and then home.

Started a donation pool on DeviantArt last night, in order to be able to pay Nanashi-no for both pics she will be working on (since she charges 200 points for each wallpaper she works on). As an incentive, I have created lists of what I intend to have other people draw at some point or another, and have offered to add anything that any donors would like me to add. Maybe that's not gonna work, though, because whoever wants other people to draw stuff for them could just commission someone directly.

How else should I get people to donate? Hmmmm...

Cracked.com: Seven shockingly dark origins of lovable children's characters.

(In particular, read the first one that comes up.)

http://www.cracked.com/article_18906_7-shockingly-dark-origins-lovable-childrens-characters.html

Even though I read this yesterday morning, I saved it for last because it has inspired something for Monster Collection Chronicles that's gonna take quite a bit to write about. In particular, some stuff about McKnight, but I am also going to write a bit about Redda as well.

Redda:

Brought this up with Chelle in an entry on her blog which she has since either hidden or deleted. Wish I had used Tycho for that comment, but even if I were able to view it, this site does not allow you to edit comments anyway.

Anyway, Chelle has mentioned that Redda's name translates into "favored by God". From this, I have decided to establish that Warp, the god of Darkness, was the one who gave him his teleportation and telekinetic powers in the first place, in a deal that he would seek the Monster Items to set him free. (Being the betrayer that he is, of course, he never upheld his end of the deal, and had also taken to abusing his powers.)

Also worth noting is that canonically, the only thing keeping him from being a Complete Monster is his intentions to end the war between the Holy and Demon Realms by destroying Mon World and creating a formless world in its place, which in his mind, will mean that no one will suffer anymore.

I was also going to suggest that Redda have been appointed by Warp when he was still the Knights' age, but Chelle told me that he'd still be an angel at that time. Also mentioned a Fate Worse Than Death he'd receive from Warp at the end of the first fic for cowardice, betrayal, abuse of power, and hypocrisy as a Well Intentioned Extremist (in that he himself has made others suffer just because he didn't deem them worthy), but that's not really relevant here.

David McKnight:

Here's where the ideas I got from the aforementioned article come in: McKnight wants vengeance against the evil goddess Pfizgiy for his deceased wife Kaede.

Well, this kinda would make sense, but would also raise some questions to be answered. What it does explain is why his daughter was given a Japanese first name, why Pfizgiy assumes that particular form and name towards Mondo when his senses are fucked, and even more importantly, why McKnight gave each of the Knights a weapon to train with even though they're already quite capable of using magic.

To elaborate on that last item, McKnight was the one who created the twelve elemental weapons and established a cult. Since he alone will be unable to defeat Pfizgiy, even with the blessing of Gasejo, the Mon Colle Knights will represent him by wielding the weapons he had bestowed onto them, and summoning no one but the gods when the time comes to battle Pfizgiy (the only enemy which McKnight himself will actively fight against).

Questions: How did Pfizgiy ever come into contact with David and Kaede McKnight, if the Giygas Crystals had been sealed away in an underground temple somewhere in Mon World? (Long story behind that.) And, why did Gasejo choose McKnight if Pfizgiy has likely hurt others as well? Or, why did Pfizgiy even choose to kill Kaede in particular?

(I have heard of a trope called Mind Screw, in which the big picture is left to fans to put together, but that might just be an excuse for laziness by not answering my own questions.)

To sum things up, though, McKnight is pretty much the flip side of the coin to Redda. While Redda has good intentions but is still extremely evil, McKnight is seemingly a saint, but really wants personal revenge on Pfizgiy. Originally, I was going to have Gasejo appoint McKnight when he was a child, but having her appoint him sometime after Kasumi's birth might work even better. And, as an equivalent to the twelve children that serve McKnight, Redda has whoever bears his mask after his death and eleven appointed by that man (even though he had Zaha for some time when he was physically alive).

Chelle:

Spice and Wolf : regardless of what the many fanarts and some promotional material will make you believe, this is not a fanservice show. It's about economics, the slowly growing romantic relationship between the two lead characters and then some more complicated economic schemes, and doesn't feature anything that I know to be of interest to you.

Redda is dub spelling, original spelling is Reda. Redda just has stupid motivations.

Mind screw : good mind screw uses symbolism to epic levels, but does make sense when it comes down to the roots (Evangelion for example has an explanation for everything in additional material). Simply leaving away details that would logically have explanation within the narrative would be indeed be laziness.

Also, about the donation pool, you'd first need lots of visitors, then folks who actually care for the cause, and like you already said, they wouldn't really benefit from having any of their suggestions added to that list.

Yes, I'd be interested at some point in the future, but not today.
