Okay, so I still have yet to discuss actual storylines I have in mind about part 1 of MCC with Chelle. For now, though, I'd like to get this off my chest after having thought about it for so many months. But anyway, this is gonna be a lengthy post. Here are twelve villains who (for the record) will work towards setting the demon god Warp free from his prison before working together with him to wage war on Mon World as retribution for his imprisonment from eons ago (along with Chelle's responses and their sources of inspiration).

Before I get started, only the first eight listed on this post were ever mentioned to Chelle (almost a year ago), and she did tell me that a few of them would be hard to take seriously. Three of them came to mind later, and the last one is just the one who brought them all together. None of them had names when I first introduced them to her, and these descriptions will be more up-to-date.

While I still haven't replaced any of the first eight I came up with, what I'm really looking for is twelve characters with distinct, unique personalities, along with something they all have in common. The fact that some of them would come across as somewhat comical by their gimmicks (others are still more serious) makes things that much more interesting, when combined with the fact that all of them are just as harmful as Reda are genuinely dangerous (as opposed to Count Collection, who normally inflicts and/or receives slapstick injuries). I am open to suggestions if anyone has any.

Spoilers will be mentioned in comments if need be, but to name a few examples of what I mean, there's Digimon Adventure 01, which had Etemon, Puppetmon, and (at least the dub version of) Piedmon, along with a few more typical villains (such as Devimon and Myotismon). Each of Magus523's Mega Man game novelizations, with their own set of Robot Masters, would also count.

And then, there's Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4, in which the bosses in question are representations of the characters repressed negative thoughts. (Some of the following videos are combined with the preceeding cutscenes.)

Shadow Yosuke
Shadow Chie
Shadow Yukiko
Shadow Kanji (Warning: Yaoibait)
Shadow Rise (Warning: Fanservice)
Shadow Teddie
Shadow Mitsuo (inspired one of my own boss characters)
Shadow Naoto

Anyway, without further ado:

1) Mortimer

A top-hat-wearing clown who wields a cane. Might also use playing cards to cast magical attacks. Also has a stronger form, in which his hair turns into fire and he fights with a pair of rapiers. Mooks are likely circus-themed, consisting of clowns, animals, knife-throwers, and so on. Chances are, he is in charge of raising funds for his groups operations, by traveling with his troupe around the world. Represents Fire because of his demonic form.

Chelle's response: Villain Clowns type are really effective as opponents (TV Tropes: Monster Clown), but how are you going to get him into a High Fantasy setting? Is he one of the monsters who visited the human world and picked up the image there, or something? [Judging by that question, I'm guessing the same is also true with the Baseball Giant.]

Inspiration: Mainly, from Philippe, the fourth boss from Final Fight 2 (image here, from this page). Flotsam from Dark Cloud 2 also deserves credit, doubling as both a clown himself and the leader of his own troupe (as well as providing a suitable personality). The second form was inspired from someone's shirt I once saw at college, probably advertising some kind of band (possibly the Insane Clown Posse). (And yes, I know "Mortimer" doesn't exactly sound funny enough for a clown name, but neither does "Philippe", does he?)

2) Admiral Baer

A pirate captain. Rides a cast-iron chariot equipped with a cannon. Fights to plunder any territory he conquers. Represents Water, for obvious reasons.

Chelle's response: Nobody takes pirates serious anymore since Cutthroat Island, and Pirates of the Caribbean cemented this by playing pirates with humor. So my advice is to not take this one very serious. They might work with zombies, but only as long as he isn't too silly either.

Inspiration: Personality based off of a certain boss from Starfox 64. Vehicle inspired from Dark Cloud.

3) The Krippler Brothers

Ricky, Lenny, Eddie, and Dean, four anthropomorphic, blood-related animals of some kind who speak Totally Radical. To this point, I still have no idea exactly what kind of animal they should be, but not anything aquatic or able to fly, since they will represent Earth. Whatever they are, they will definitely fight with brute force, and maybe with weapons. Their mooks consist mainly of other anthropomorphic animals of different species, vast majority of them are male, and they could be all kinds of things such as cowboys, rock stars, cyborgs, aborigines, cavemen, or others, or could just use their fists and/or claws. (And yes, I am aware that there already exist such races in Mon World, such as the War Pigs, the mining wolves, and the scientist dogs.) They joined mainly for the sake of fighting and beating people up.

(Weren't thought up when I discussed this topic with Chelle the first time.)

Inspiration: The Smurfette Principle, known to apply to shows that involve humanoid fighting animals (with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles being the most notable example).

4) Camille

A witch who speaks in double-lined rhymes (each line being 7-8 syllables long). Being what she is, she would obviously maneuver through the air on her broomstick and battle with magical powers. She might have been among those who performed the experiments in Kharon's labrynths, and her motivation might be to find more subjects for experimentation. [Not finalized, though, because I've been toying around with the idea that even she and her fellow generals would despise Reda, and would follow a code prohibiting them from acting nearly as depraved as him.] Would represent Wind, provided that she at least be able to fly.

Chelle's response: Broomsticks are more fairytale elements than high fantasy elements, and may suffer from a similar effect as the above if the witch also looks like the cliche croaky old woman with nasal voice and pointy nose.

Inspiration: Based primarily off of Gruntilda, the Big Bad of the Banjo-Kazooie franchise, although she was much more benign. And yes, that one was a stereotypical witch, but hopefully, Chelle and I should be able to work something out.

5) The Beehive Brigade

A magical girl group consisting of Yuka, a brunette, affably evil genki girl, and her friends Nanako (green-haired), Misao (blue-haired), Chiharu (pink-haired), and Izumi (blonde). Each of them have an oval-shaped crystal which, when used, causes their hair to wrap around it and gives them psychic elemental powers. These crystals were given to them specifically in exchange for their service to Warp, a deal which they had no qualms agreeing to. They are also capable of putting people to an unending slumber and brainwashing girls into becoming fellow magical girls to do their bidding. Unfortunately, killing her and her friends is the only way to break the spell that they had cast on so many people, plus there's the fact that some minions (like those of the other generals) will have to die as well in order for the Knights to battle and defeat them. They represent the Holy element.

(Even though magic is already an integral part of Mon World, it's possible that their transformations, and those of their mooks, would give them enhanced abilities, similar to the Knights' superhuman speed, strength, and agility.)

Inspiration: The One Guy, opposite trope from that which the Krippler Bros. are based on. Magical girl shows (with Sailor Moon being the most notable example) rarely feature guys having an equal role to those who do the fighting. The idea of them putting people to sleep, although also present in Makeruna! Makendou Z, was more directly inspired from episode 4 of Popotan.

6) Alpha-01H (becomes Hitomi later):

A child-like gynoid. Fights primarily with a built-in gatling gun, but can also analyze her opponents' root elements to activate one secondary weapon at a time. Despite her innocent appearance, she is almost emotionless and speaks a stereotypical "A.I." dialect, although she can smile, frown, or scowl lightly. Would most likely fight to become complete as a person, though while it didn't take long for me to agree with Chelle about her as redeemable, I would very much rather she remain a gynoid and thus more and more of a Token Loli as other characters age. Will need to figure out how to work that.

In any case, she will represent Metal.

Chelle's response: I love this idea, but I thought you didn't want any science fiction aspects? Also, this one's going to be a sympathy jerker when written well, so is good redemption material. Last, a female-like android is called gynoid. [Part of this was already cleared up here.]

Inspiration: Kotoko-01, from Divergence Eve, although that character is a subordinate to someone else.

(Added in: Forgot to mention this before, but her fighting style has more to do with the Contra video game series, where you typically start out with a machine gun and can obtain up to two superior weapons as you go along (at least in four of the games, though other games are similar). I feel this needs to be mentioned, because Kotoko only used two types of guns in her own series, neither of which were built in, both only once each.)

7) Eight-bit

Resembles a pixelated "8-bit" video game character. Fights based on a five-option menu consisting of "Attack", "Item", "Magic", "Defend", and "Flee". Speaks in monotone. Currently, I have no idea what his motivation would be, if he even will make it into the actual ficseries. Represents Storm.

Chelle's response: Aside of the science fiction aspect you said you didn't want in Mon World, this is going to conjure hilarious mental images, which is probably not what you're aiming for. Also, it's terribly mismatched.

Inspiration: Shadow Mitsuo, linked to way above.

8) The Nameless One (and yes, "The" is capitalized):

Basically a clone of Jason Voorhees. Even though he cannot speak, he can communicate wordlessly with people's brains (denoted by a momentary red glare in his eyes), though others are still free to choose a response. Not sure how he would fight, other than obviously wielding a machete. Fights solely to fulfill his desire for bloodshed. Represents Bog, closest thing to a forest, since the real Jason does tend to prowl in one.

Chelle's response: This isn't an actual horror story, and like the broomstick and pirate may fall into silly territory when played out in the proverbial daylight.

Inspiration: The film franchise is obvious enough, but more credit would go to the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of the NES game adaptation, in which Mike Matei plays his role. Also, Battle Arena Toshinden 3 had its own variation, named Judgment.

9) Ching Long

Whoever this person is, he speaks in broken English and fights by encasing himself inside a spinning cylindrical pillar of ice, surrounded by a lake of arctic water. The only way to attack him is to shoot into any of the openings. Represents Frost.

This is the last general mentioned here that I hadn't come up with when I came up with eight of the others.

Inspiration: Dialect inspired from Magneto's infamous line "X-Men! Welcome to die!!!" from the X-Men arcade game. Fighting style inspired (years earlier, but forgotten since) from the fifth boss battle from Super Valis IV, which involves shooting fireballs at a ball of flames through a narrow space.

10) Alfonso

Whoever this person is, his strategy involves creating a dimension consisting of a large board of squares in the middle of a void, and rolling a proportionately huge pair of dice to see what happens on each turn. Believes that everything in the world is a game, and fights to see who wins and who loses. Represents Space, because of the extradimensional aspect to his game.

Chelle's response: Neat idea, though like with the clown, there'd need to some explanation of how he knows of chess.

My counter-response: As for the person with the board, the game isn't chess at all. There aren't even any pieces, just a pair of dice which set up traps beneath the "floor" based on where the dice land and which numbers they land on. The Knights are free to move around on their own.

Inspiration: Actually pretty mundane. Try picturing a pair of gigantic dice which rotate 90 degrees in sync and place every few seconds, in a random direction, showing the same number in the same position forwards at any given time, while Bowser's regular battle theme from Super Mario 64 plays in the background. The whole thing evolved from that from time to time since I was in 7th grade.

11) Elias

The ritual practitioner. He is the one who will be in charge of unsealing Warp. Dances in unison with the Curse Dancers (discussed on 12/22/09; please ignore anything about Katsuo on that entry) to perform magic while in battle. Also agile enough to fight physically, able to jump, slash with his bladed fingers, and shoot spikes in multiple directions with a swift wave of his arm. Personality-wise, he is mostly serious and calm, and unlike stereotypical demons, does not smirk, gloat, or mock people. Addresses his comrades as "my friend" or "friends", and will mourn their deaths, encouraging others to engage in a toast to their fallen allies. Represents Darkness.

(Chelle did not respond to this one.)

Inspiration: Based on a Digimon known as Matadormon, who is classified as "undead" and is known for dances. His Curse Dancers and the dance that will be performed are inspired from that with which Dark Cloud begins:

12) And finally, Time will be represented by the one who now bears the Red Mask. Haven't thought of a name for him, but it should be something from an ancient language. Not Arabic, though, since "Reda" and "Zaha" already are that. Something like Germanic, Hebrew, Sumerian, Latin, or Sanskrit should do.

Chelle:

[Judging by that question, I'm guessing the same is also true with the Baseball Giant.]

There's no Baseball Giant in the unmacekred version. The original's Mister Gentle (or some play on gentleman) and not specifically a baseball monster; dunno whether he even knew the game since it was Ruth who set it all up.

(And yes, I am aware that there already exist such races in Mon World, such as the War Pigs, the mining wolves, and the scientist dogs.)

There's no war pigs and mining wolves and scientist dogs in the original either. The first are orcs, and the latter two are both forms of kobolds.

Would most likely fight to become complete as a person, though while it didn't take long for me to agree with Yincira about her as redeemable, I would very much rather she remain a gynoid and thus more and more of a Token Loli as other characters age. Will need to figure out how to work that.

I never said anything about turning her human, I took person as the idiom, to have a full identity of her own. Making it work would be really easy, have her decide that keeping her powers would be more helpful than becoming a human, and get her more advanced software that will allow her to develop a personality.

Not Arabic, though, since "Reda" and "Zaha" already are that. Something like Germanic, Hebrew, Sumerian, Latin, or Sanskrit should do.

Zaha is derived from Hebrew. As for a new name for this character, decide what he is and only then choose an ancient language as source for the name.

Expansion on person : in the real world, person only is used for a human being since we're the only sapient species. But in a setting that has more than one sapient species, you can use person to mean any sapient creature with free will.

Artificial life is plausible in various forms. There's fully robotic, synthetic (simulating life and having blood and organs yet made of silicones, like the Autons from the AvP franchise), cyborg (mix between organic and artificial), or organic yet limited by software (Blade Runner features such). Which one is she?

when combined with the fact that all of them are just as harmful as Reda.

So, everyone single one of them is going to threaten something to the extent of the end of all existence? That's going to lose the sense of threat very quickly. Reserve the "biggest threat possible" status for the Big Bad.

Fully robotic then. If she must bleed, then don't do sparkles since you're avoiding Cartoon Physics; malfunctioning technology acting like soft fireworks doesn't happen a lot in real life.
