Just been having somewhat of a dispute (if you will) with Chelle about writing these past few days or so. She's said that said argument is killing the muse she needs to write something due on the 21st, so if I decide to show her this entry, it will probably be after that date (if she doesn't comment on it beforehand).

Well, to start with, about a month ago, she noticed in the second half of the MCC prologue that the POV was rather inconsistent. Even though I tend to distinguish only between 1st-person (narrated by a character), 2nd-person ("you"), and 3rd-person (narrated by the author), Chelle told me that there actually is more to author-narrated storytelling. I held off on posting the chapter to let her analyze it, only because she offered to do it for free and there would be no point saying no. When she did get back to me (after I contacted her after the 1st of this month), it turns out that most of it was omniscient, so all I did was away with any bits from a particular characters POV, just to make those parts more consistent with the rest of the story. She got frustrated and told me that she's pretty much done trying to help me improve my writing skills, because she's told me more than once to read actual books instead of just fanfiction. However, after I had told her that I didn't know how else to handle those parts, she was nice enough to write up a sample for a certain part from the POV of Rokuna, Mondo, and Katsuo each. Even though I had planned on posting the chapter specifically yesterday, this made me decide to postpone it even further, because I didn't want to hurt her feelings by posting it the way it was before she even analyzed it, after the effort she had made critiquing it. (No big deal. Only part II of the ficseries actually involves the attacks, Al Qaida, or Osama bin Laden; part I still takes place before the turn of the millennium.)

Because of the way I tried to handle the POVs, Chelle pretty much infers that I don't really like to read or write, and has asked me why I attempt to write fanfiction if it apparently doesn't suit me. Well, I will admit that regular books generally don't interest me. Coming off on this argument, though, I might decide to start over with the Harry Potter series, since Chelle recommended it more than a year ago, and since we probably still have some of those books on hand, but I wouldn't be surprised if I default back to gaming at some point afterwards.

As for writing, I have written myself a passage yesterday asking myself why I plan on writing both Monster Collection Chronicles and Parasitic Trio, and even considered letting Chelle work on each MCC chapter for a commission fee. However, I might just revoke that decision, because while there are fics such as The Furrysitters' Club that I pretty much fell flat with (if I even started writing them at all), I'm pretty sure that I in fact do enjoy writing whenever I have the inspiration. Let's take a look at my past works:

Rockna & a Hard Place: Inspired from someone's two-shot spinoff of Earthbound: The Perpetual Adventures. No game-like elements, because the sole purpose of this fic was to establish why fancharacter Takeshi Okimichi gets (or rather, would have gotten) involved in the plot of MCC part II. Even though this is no longer canon to the ficseries and that the plot of part II is gonna need to be done over, I did enjoy writing this during the fall of 2004.

SMW2: Yoshi's Island, rewritten: Read through a number of Super Mario fanfics during the summer of 2005, in hopes of drawing inspiration for actual plot for this fic. Nothing came to mind, so I just took to getting started with it some weeks later. The main purpose of this fic was to give Mai (mistakenly called Hikari in the fic) some kind of story, since the only game I knew of at the time that she ever starred in (not counting the sequel, which stars the real Hikari instead), was Makeruna! Makendou (bowdlerized and known as Kendo Rage in the U.S.). On the sidelines, also to have her change Baby Mario's diaper, which I slipped two instances of in the fic.

Did I enjoy writing this? Yes, whenever I felt like writing at all. Will admit, though, that my favorite parts were deciding whether Mai or Joe would play a bonus game at the end of each chapter, and seeing what they'd win (if anything), but I did enjoy writing everything else as well. Even though Chelle inferred that it would take me 20 years to write the part I of Monster Collection Chronicles, I actually managed to write all ten chapters I've written for it before discontinuing it in just two. (Not to mention I was even still in school back then.)

Reason I stopped was because Jake's friend Zerodius told me that readers look for plot in stories, and criticized me for basically saying "Screw Yoshi, let's revive someone that nobody cares about." Even though he was rather rude about it (as well as several other fics) during what little time I had been friends with him, he probably was right about that being the reason only one person had ever reviewed it to that point (and only one other later on). Should note, though, that I actually was hoping to get reviews as proof that people other than Martin (LordBudFerg) were actually reading it, but that will not be the case with Monster Collection Chronicles.

With Them You Can Do It: Lyrics typically aren't my specialty, but some had come naturally the morning after I had listened to You Can Do Anything for the first time ever. Decided that I might as well solidify them as long as they were fresh.

The Furrysitters' Club: Meh. This was just an excuse of a babyfic to have Tiara Boobowski change one of the babyfied boys' diapers, as well as to get her to appear in any fanfiction at all. Discontinued after four chapters. Nowadays, this is something I'd more likely commission for through DeviantArt instead.

Fuyuki's Hot Night: Took me until mid-semester during the fall of 2007 to finally carve out a time to write this, thanks to my schoolwork and the amount of free time I spent playing Dark Cloud. When I finally did, I momentarily wondered if I'd actually be able to write it, but didn't let myself give up after having already promised it to Jake. Just getting started was the hard part; I pretty much did enjoy writing it through afterwards.

Mondo & Rokuna's BIG Date: (Hyperlink is to DeviantArt for my favorite version of the fic.) Gotta admit that I don't think I could've pulled through this on my own. I thought the premise to this fic up mainly to cater to my then-newly-founded giantess fetish, but not with just anyone. Originally, I was gonna do this with Jake, in which case it would've just been a buildup towards sex. Glad I did it with Chelle instead, given how much more creative she was while collaborating with me on it. Did I enjoy writing this? Yes. Do I really need to write stuff completely on my own just to prove that? I actually had before (see Fuyuki's Hot Night above), although certain fics that I once planned to write but never have started would more likely be delegated to others across DeviantArt.

Cult: The prologue to Monster Collection Chronicles. Wrote most of it in just the week of Thanksgiving last year, and wrote a lot more in one shot than I had with BIG Date. Even though it took a year now to finish it up, that's gotta say something, right?

Unwritten fiction: Yeah, there have been projects I've once planned on, but never started writing. Those would include Magical Idol Ellen, the two Ultimate Girls fics, a Sonic fic involving Rouge having her nose inflated, and a Makendou fanfic involving Mai and Hikari's hair becoming updone against their will. These are all minor projects that, nowadays, I would commission people for on DeviantArt instead, since I spend lots of time doing other stuff (admittedly, much of it gaming). I'm also glad Jake proposed his own version of the Yoshi's Island fic back in 2008, although I don't think that should materialize until I or someone else thoroughly translates at least the third game in the Makendou trilogy, and maybe the less text-intensive first game as well.

With fanfiction, I tend to care more about what I want being materialized at all than about writing it myself, but Parasitic Trio will definitely be a huge exception to that rule, after I finish playing Pokemon Diamond and play all the way through Pokemon Battle Revolution and Pokemon HeartGold and Platinum (and maybe Pokemon White and further, if only to buy more time to develop scenes, rules, or plotlines, or to recruit more people to help me with it.).

In any case, I'll probably have Chelle collaborate with me on each chapter for Monster Collection Chronicles, and Jake with each chapter for Parasitic Trio. If I ever do come back to Digimon Royale, I'll probably have Chelle collab with me on that too, but I would still prefer to remain in charge of which Digimon Digivolve into what.
